another poor example of our elected officials

Rep. Waller speaks about medical marijuana | IndyBlog | Colorado Springs Independent

Waller from the springs talks about the struggle to get the bill passed. His ignorance really shows when talking about felons and mmj. What the hell? I still do not get the felon issue if it only applies to the second class felon, you know the ones that are being discriminated against!

I have a marijuana felony(12 years old, possession of a pound) and I just built a business from scratch after going through a bankruptcy. A very good business I have paid over $60,000.00 in sales tax to the State in the last year but now I cannot be trusted to do so. Because now of this representatives whims I am put out of business and told to go back to second class jobs, is this really helping me rebuild my life sir? The State forcing me out of business how is this just. The State Constitution says once a Felon has completely discharged their sentence all rights as a citizen of Colorado are restored to them. The only amendment to that is that they cannot carry a firearm after the Brady Bill was passed. Before the Brady bill they could even carry guns. Thank God they have not taken away our right to vote yet. All you Conservatives, libertarians, constitutionalists where are you, why are you letting this happen to small business? Is it because it goes against your moral compass? it's funny how many of you look away when the rights of others are trampled, but cry out when you are attacked. The constitution includes all of us!

    Hey Greatful,

Sorry to hear about your past. You are 100% correct that your past should be your past even more so for first time offence. I have a younger brother that is dying to move to Colorado if you want to hire someone. He has like 15 years of management under his belt. He is trying to be out here asap

Exactly Mark, that is how I see it. You did your crime, you paid your dime and time. Now why should you or any felon be prohibited from living and working like anybody else. And if I recollect, isn't only felons of drug related crimes that are prohibited? What about the other felons for crimes against people? I feel that once you have paid your debt to society for whatever conviction you have had your slate is clean, but with our lawmakers having the attitudes such as Waller quoted below :Indy: Of course, felons owning medical marijuana dispensaries plays bad politically, but what's the actual risk?

Well, I think you have to make some value decision there, and value decisions like we make with felons in many other circumstances. We say they canâ??t work in schools with out children, we say they canâ??t own or possess firearms. There are many other limitations we put on felons, and I think with recidivism the way it is, and with this being the kind of industry â?? whether you agree with medical marijuana or not â?? this attracts some people that are certainly legitimate users of this product, but it also attracts some kind of sketchy people. And do you want felons â?? people that are theoretically on the road to getting heir lives on track â?? do you want them to be tempted by all of these sketchy people that theyâ??re dealing with?Indy: Was there something that prompted your final "Yes" vote on the bill, or did you just have a good feeling about it overall?

I wouldnâ??t say I had a good feeling, and Iâ??ll tell you: I wouldâ??ve been just fine if it had failed. Again, a couple issues here: I think first and foremost, I canâ??t help but feel that by voting on this, weâ??re in some way endorsing â?? and obviously we are endorsing â?? the dispensary model. Is that appropriate? I mean, I donâ??t think thatâ??s what the voters called for in 2000 when they passed the medical marijuana amendment, Amendment 20. I donâ??t think they conceived, at all, of this dispensary model. So now weâ??re creating something thatâ??s not constitutional that opens up access to marijuana.

People say, â??We should just legalize it and be done with it and call it good.â? You know, Iâ??m not that guy â?? I donâ??t believe that. We heard a lot of testimony of the effects of marijuana on the developing brain, and thereâ??s some pretty horrific impacts associated with the effects of marijuana on the developing brain, and by the way, your brainâ??s not fully developed until youâ??re in your early 20s. And now weâ??re hearing that access has really opened up to kids in high schools because of the availability of marijuana, because of all these dispensaries that are around.

Pretty sketchy people? there are sketchy people in all walks of life. Look at all the cases of misconduct by the fucking lawmakers themselves. Tax evasion by the Chair of the ways and means committee Mr. Rangel, or the good representative fro Louisianna that had oodles and oodles of cash in his freezer, any of the citizens that these sons a bitches dictate life to would be in prison for the same shit, hell even a sitting president lied to congress about his blowjob, ( and I like Clinton, but not his lies ) But you get busted for some marijuana 12 years ago, pay your dues and still get jammed. Good luck to you on this never ending uphill struggle.

I wish I was kidding. I think the "judgements to government agencies" might include everything down to parking tickets, too.

We are all getting screwed, the intent of the bill was to put 80 to 90% of us out of business and they mean it!

first off your felony should'nt even be counted as a felon as it was mj.how can they even use that against you when are now ok'd by the state to do this but now they will be treating you as if you are a no good pos.

besides that it's 12 years old and you have'nt done anything else that got you caught up with the law?if so does that not show anyone that you have been "reformed"to the states standards? being the good lil boy they want you to be?thats still not good enough for them.

as i have said many times this law is to be able to control both sides.they throw leo a bone at the same time still making a shit load of money on the "mmj center" side of things.

I could be wrong, but I thought I heard something about there being a limitation on that of 2-3 years. I still haven't read the final bill tho (bad patient, bad, bad patient)
