A suggestion: buy one of the 200w equiv/45w actual 4100k 'cool white' shop lights to start. If you want, spend the extra coupla / few bux for the non-smashy version. If you're on a truly tight budget, get the cheaper one, and be careful.

Then, a little while later, add another one, putting the both o' them on one of those y-splitter thingies you'll probably have to get at the hardware store. Then, a little while later, add a six-pack of the 6500k 100w equiv / 23w actual... Then... either six or twelve of the 2700k 100w equiv / 23w actual, to finish. I leave the logistics of this up to your imagination.

Total bulb cost, start to finish: 15+15+20+20=70, or 20+20+20+40=100 bux.
Total lumens (in various spectræ) 3000+3000+9600+9600=25,200, or 3000+3000+9600+19200=38,400.

Theoretically enough to do 2.5 sq ft, or almost 4 sq ft. Ymmv. I'm testing it out right now mesef...
