browning roots in hydro
my friends hydro system is in about week 12 of flowering and is not doing well at all.....3 of the plants have died (out of the 5) and now the two left...one has browning roots....there was alot of light showing through the side of the bins which wasn't fixed till about a week ago....I'm guessing that the roots have started to rot and wont make it...but they also say that it could be one of the chemicals they are using which is dark brown and could be staining the roots(but i dont think it would turn it that color)....I suggested the they cut the tops off and try to clone them...what do you guys think??

the ph has also been low for weeks <5.0 (they didn't check it every day or even week)...they corrected it last week to between 6.3 and 6.5 but it dropped down to 5.0 now again....

12th week of flowering? do you mean 12 days? when did you flip the lights to 12/12? cause there should be buds! anyways what your describing me is root rot. your plant will definitely yield very very little or die if you dont address this issue. i would flush and clean your res. do 1/4 strength nutes with b1 or peroxide to address all that rotting. when roots rot it will lower the ph so it is key to keep an eye on your ph. this problem is from neglected abuse of not checking ph and possibly from the light leak. it could also be from the temperature of your water if it gets hot in your room

I'm thinking that someone should have started asking questions about 2 dead plants ago. Cig has a good plan and H2O2 will work but if yuo have the extra cash Hygrozyme is the stuff to get.
I also second "12th week??" of flowering. Can we please verify this. Also trying to clone off a plant in flowering means getting the clone to revert back to veg which sometimes isnt easy or doesnt work all the time, not to mention the chances of a surviving clone is less than normal since your talking about cloning a sick plant. :wtf:
Wow I just looked again and that is one nasty rez!!! I guess the only thing I could say is would you want to be eating out of there??

if it has been 10 weeks of 12/12 then your plant is in serious shock. most indica plants finish in 7-10 weeks your plants roots maybe so in shock that its not doing anything. since there is no buds i would just reveg it and get her back to health

Ditto on the 1/4 strength nuits. try and maintain a 5.5-5.8 Ph
The low Ph was caused by the dead roots
The hygozyme will eat the dead root matter, also any brown dead
material that can be easily pulled off should be.
until I got a controller I really had no idea how often the ph changed and was corrected, "UNBELEAVEABLE" amount of Ph up in two weeks feeding, almost 250 ml

Absolutely agreeing with pH issues causing root rot. I'd also wonder about reservoir temperatures. This plant has been so shocked I'd worry about hermaphroditing out.
Be careful no matter what you do. Get hygrozyme, and also I'd be wary of pythium, and also check oxygen.

not only do you need to keep an eye on PH, temp and such but you might want to write down on a calander when you start things in your grow like .... flowering. 2 weeks can make a HUGE difference.

Try what these guy say. It's the first thing you look at.
From what little I can see it might also be Cyanobacteria. If the normal treatment does not seem to work or makes it worse then you need some Physan20. It's too late for your plants but you will need it to clean up all the nasties.
If it were light leaks you would have a good amount of algea and I don't see it. Looks more like heat and neglect.
