Male resin/trichome production?

Hey everyone (hopefully some vets read this!) I haven't been on in forever but I just started another one... I'm not into flowering yet but had a question about males. I started from seed from a previous harvest (ended up with a hermie... I guess it wasn't all bad :/), and the beauties have been going about a month. As I said, I'm still in veg (24/0) and have noticed that some of the plants seem to be slowly developing trichs.... Now, seeing as how I haven't sexed any, this led me to thinking... Do male plants develop trichomes??? I came to realize that, in all the reading I've done, from books to mags to boards, I haven't heard a single mention of this! It's obvious the females do, and I assume males could/do too because of the defensive nature of trichs.... but does anyone know from first hand experience? Would/do they look any different than female trichs, or are they more/less abundant than on females? Just got the ol' thinker goin, so I figured I'd post about it and try to get some feedback (or get everyone else's thinkers goin?).... I have never grown a male so IDK!!!!

From my knowledge males can produce a very very small amount of thc but nothing that will get you high.

yes, but I was wondering about the trichomes themselves... not the thc levels (thank you though!) so do male plants produce identical/similar trichomes and they just have a different chemical composition (in particular more thc) or are they different looking all together? somebody help!!!!

like char said there is only a little. the low low amount of thc would be in the leaf itself. no one is prolly touching this thread cause we dont waste our time with males, we just cut em down. some people however sometimes just throw there males in a batch of butter. to me that is a waste of time cause its sooo low in thc. also to get the maximum out of the male i would guess you have to grow it out just like females. thc improves as the plant becomes closer to being mature. none of us are going to let a male take up precious grow space. honestly i would just drop this thread, cut down the male and start over and use that wasted time pondering over a male that will prolly give you a headache at best.

Ummm...wrong. They just won't do what you are growing cannabis to do.
Get you high...? They sure do.
Get you good-n-high...? Well...perhaps not.
They provide nothing but fan leaves to smoke and they taste like straw, but I've done 'em in a pinch. Kinda like smoking resins...some like it, some are disgusted. Oh, and BTW...smoking pollen tastes like dog crap smells.

Females have the trichomes and resins to protect the seeds and I'm guessing, to catch pollen. Males don't have seeds to protect, so much fewer trichomes.

Thank you! that is the kind of answer I was looking for lol.... I don't know if people misunderstood what I meant or what... Anyways it was just a 'high'-pothetical question, well kinda.....

I read through both links, and I am bummed. (that I didn't attend chemistry class more often)

But seriously, they could have saved a shitload of time and monies if they'd have just asked us CanCom members. Likely we would have presented a more comprehensive analysis, and in real-world terms.
Plus, they didn't even bother with a smoke report. At no point during the testing did the author say...: "so we took a few bonghits of each, and much to our surprise..." :wtf: Likely because the males were hemp, but hey...ya never know till you try. :thumbsup:

Any links to the differences between a high THC:CBD ratio and a low THC:CBD ratio? Or the differences between a high THC:CBN ratio and a low THC:CBN ratio? or the CBD:CBN ratio itself...? Have heard mumblings in the past, but nothing new for quite a while.

I once asked this same question long ago. Saw trichs on my seedlings...

Italiano showed me some info. That there are several types of trichs and that they are also on male plants. Trichs in veg arent an indication of sex.

The leaf in my avatar is about 4 weeks old, and turned out male. I smoke male leaves, and eat the immature tops before they get a chance to make pollen, and it's all good to me.
