What to do after the passing of HB 1284 this morning?

I read this "If the bill wins final approval in the Senate, it must return to the House, which will either go along with the Senate's changes or opt to work on a compromise. Once both chambers pass the same version of the bill, it will go to Gov. Bill Ritter's desk."

Is there a deadline in which this must be done so that it takes effect this year? I thought I remembered reading something that mentioned if not done by a certain date that it wont go into effect until next year.

Hey Mike, This should be done and over with by the start to mid next week.

To my knowledge there is not. What I do know is if it's going to be handled like SB 109 it will go into effect as soon as Ritter signs it. They want to get these restrictions in place ASAP.

Yes, I do think 3rd reading is the final reading unless what they send back to the House comes back with more amendment then the Senate has to revote on it and depending if it comes out with any/no amendments it gets tossed back to the house if there are, if not then it is either voted for or voted against. Lets hope for the latter but plan on the former.

Sadly, I think we all know how the vote is going to eventually come out. :wtf:

makes me wonder with ritter not being able to run again for office.if he made deals with people to rush this through so he can sign off on it to put the power back in there hands?maybe some old favors that needed to be taken care of? makes ya wonder.

If this passes, they will close at least half the disps that's going to put it into the hands of upwards of 20,000 caregivers/grows. With numbers like that, we will have fires. Letâ??s face it, people make mistakes, or worse yet, don't know what they are doing.

The disps, generally, have been doing this or something close for much of their lives, how to do it, and do it well. Taking it out of the hands of the professionals who can take fire suppression precautions, security precautions and can do it in a industrial atmosphere to reduce the risk of growing is a bad idea no matter how you look at it. Then, to have caregivers growing it in confined spaces that pose more of a risk to fire/loss of life just does not make sense. Let the disps do what they do best, dispense meds in a safe and secure atmosphere. Don't force attic grows>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

this bill would shut these guys down more so.where do you think disp's get most of their product? this would cut that out only for a slect few.now i do know what ya mean about people that don't know wtf they are doing.but there are alot of disp owners that flocked here that don't know shit about shit just to cash in.so that goes both ways.

Of course who knows when they will actually get to the bill.

As a patient, I'm actually in favor of the 70/30 thing in spirit... the percentages are just arbitrary numbers pulled out of their ass, but I love places that have nothing but in-house strains. It's prohibitive for a lot of places, but I enjoy knowing the provenance of everything in the store because that person (or someone they know and work with closely) grew the product. WAY too many times I go into a dispensary and there's some strain that I've never heard of and I ask them about it -- "Uhh, I dunno what it is really, they said it's 60% Sativa". That kind of shit does nothing for me, they don't know if it's soil or hydro, it's like talking to a jello mold and you get nowhere. It's fine if it's some strain that a vendor named themselves and have been growing forever, but they should know that information as well as how it was grown and tell that to the customer.

That said, some places have great regular vendors that would get cut out of the business or be forced to integrate with the dispensaries in some capacity, opening themselves up to all sorts of oversight that they may not want on what was essentially their personal grow the month prior. Places that can prove the origin of their product and how it was grown (and provide that info to the patients) are fine by me, but the vast majority of vendor meds are basically a question mark. I'd feel bad for the vendors if something like this passes, but what should really happen is that the "good" and verifiable vendors could be the 30% without having to really partner with one dispensary exclusively. I get what they're trying to do with it and agree for the most part, but it's still in the most ham-handed way possible, as seems to be the pattern with this bill...

Thank you for taking time to talk to me. Here are the figures I worry about. Keep in mind that they want to take Marijuana growing out of the hands of people who know what they are doing and put it into the hands of high morons who don't! While Iâ??m not a grower; I do know the basics of growing should you need information on the process. I, also, have an opinion of why they are trying to pass HB 1284 should you like that as well.

No one really heard how many people are on the Marijuana Registry right now so I have to give you three sets and one worse than the other. These are bare minimum figures. You could easly tack on 2%-3% margin of error.

If there are 24,000 people on the registry right now that would figure down to:

144,000 Plants
4,800 Caregivers/Individual Grows

If there are 100,000 people on the registry:

That adds up to:
600,000 plants
20,000 Caregivers/Individual Grows

124,000 People on the registry:

744,000 Plants
24,000 Caregivers/Individual Grows

These Numbers don't include the 58,000 person backlog at the CDPHE who are still waiting to be legal. Those numbers are on top of the above numbers and break down to:

348,000 Plants
11,600 Caregivers/Individual Grows.

Now, sir, I'm not a Firefighter. The only thing I know about Firefighting is what a roommate of 6 months taught me (call 911). It seems to me that when you take a skilled trade like growing Marijuana out of the hands of the people who know how to do it and put it in the hands of people who don't, you're going to see a spike in the amount of grow fires.

Speaking of growing, the above numbers will only grow as the registry grows.

Please join me in being very worried. Yes, we must have regulation but not at the expense of the people.
