It sure sucks waiting for the smaller clones to catch up. Note to self: Timing is crucial. I know this already but sometimes it gets away from you.
As soon as the smaller ones of the group show a little more upward momentum, it'll be time to flower. I'm looking to see what some smaller clones will yield for me. I know I'm not going to max out my space with what I have growing this time. At least I shouldn't
Here's a couple pics of the lovely ladies. I will say that I'm pleasantly surprised with the growth from the LEDs. I think I'm a veg convert now. I can't imagine using CFL or even MH again to veg.
Pic 3 is of the NL/Skunk seedling (there's a couple of em in there, but I like her the best)
And yes, half these cuts were taken off a lady that was in flower. Desperate times call for desperate measures. They rooted fine, however some of the new growth started off strange, but reverted back to normal after a node or 2.

Irydyum's Kush grow
Here we are, a week from last post. Last night was their first official 12 hour dark period, so today is day 1. Everything is looking good as I can tell, I'm running one of the 400's along with the LED at the moment.
Temps are right around 81 daytime with one HID on, but with the second the temp spikes up to around 89-90. Still working on figuring this one out. The only thing I can think is i'm asking my small fan to do a little too much work. I'm confined in my space so I had no choice but to put bends in the ducting to make it to each hood and I feel like it's cutting my fan's ability drastically.
Other than that, everything appears on time, should be doing some transplanting pretty soon. I'll have 6 kushes in 5 gal containers and the rest will be flowered out in 2 gals most likely.
Here's a couple pics from today, right at lights on. Figured out today that my camera doesn't like HPS/LED combo for photography, so sorry about the darkness in some of them.

I currently have the same setup and thought that a six inch fan would do the trick to keep my lights and it didn't do the job either with minimal ducting possible. Then I added a six inch booster fan and that only helped acouple degrees. After weeks of trial and error with ducting, moving the fan into different locations and messing around with my two intakes. Turns out the best thing to do was to buy a 100 dollar Ice Flow system with a water pump and a cooler. Its was the only way I can get the temps to drop from 90's to high 70's. It would've been easier to spend the money on LED's
Have you ever thought about the Ive flow?

No, no Ice Cooler in my future. I'd rather just up and move somewhere cooler
Gives me even more of an excuse.
I know the temps would drop if I could run my air cooling line with less bends, but being in such a tight space I only have about a foot on the outsides of the hoods. That leaves room for a 6" duct bent at a 90. So my 220 cfm fan is probably only pushing (random guess) 75cfm through the system. Tight turns drastically reduce efficiency of airflow.
I am planning to move for real, back home so to speak, so any major alterations on this space are out of the question. Soon enough I'll be trying to fit into a new space and have a whole new set of problems, so I figure I'll just do what I can, with what I have, the best that I can. I'm sure all will turn out well, it's not rocket science after all.
Thanks for droppin in:thumbsup:

A 90 degree turn reduces efficiency by 1.5x so your 220 CFM fan with one 90 degree angle is now worth 154 CFM. Here is the calculation to figure out your pulling power:
Room H x W x L = total square feet / 5 (air exchanged every 5 minutes) = your starting CFM.
Take the result and add the following:
1.5x for each 90 degree turn
1.3x for any carbon filter
1.3x for each hood you are pulling through
1.5x for any reducer on the line
Add 10% for each foot of duct, carbon filter, hood in the line.
This will give you your total CFM needed to exchange the air in the room every 5 minutes. Now just because you are exchanging the air every 5 minutes does not mean you will be pulling sufficient air to cool your light and the room. Drop air exchange to every 4 or even 3 minutes and you will solve your heat issues.

Hey irydyum i just was wondering what you thought about using the peat pots for starting seeds in them. I read the other day on a seed site that it slows growth at a point. I tried to grow same strain in one and one without, but i one which had the cup in it went male, 4 outta 5 not bad. But saw you using them and thought id get your 2 cents. Iv come to the conclusion i dont like them because if they dry at the least, the roots will not grow through the pots. But, maybe kept wet there isn't a issue with them? Because i saw your roots pop right through them and looked healthy as hell, so ya think it was just keeping them wet continuously was my problem?
They were not on my watch this time, but had important beans in them which i had to really baby. Just now are they getting to a point where im comfortable enough to put them out in the ground.
Thanks man, your grow looks like its gaining speed, i like to watch the kush grow:hippy:

I'm not sure about why people would have said they are bad for seedlings. I've been using them for quite some time now and never had any issue with growth related to them. I like to use them because of the ease of transplant, as soon as i have roots popping through the peat pot (always happens) I just drop in dirt. No pulling a tiny rootball out or anything, giving me less chance to hurt fragile little seedlings.
I'm sure proper watering would contribute to the health of them as well. I was watering my small peat pots daily with about 50ml of water. They would be bone dry each morning, which is what I wanted. Wet/dry cycle. The peat is breathable, so it's more difficult to drown small plants as well.

LetsSeeYa, if youre talking about the peat pellets that expand at first watering, ive noticed they do affect growth a bit... not too bad, but enough that i will not be using them again. they even killed one of my lowryder seeds.
a friend of mine has had a similar problem, hes on week 4 and his plant is only 2 inches tall. its under 300 watts of the good leds, and 250 watts hps, hes using advanced nutrients, so i can assure you its not the lighting or fertz.
he noticed when letting the medium dry out between waterings, that the peat contracted away from the rim of the pot, suggesting that my lowryder seeds died because the peat was too dense and soggy.
youd be better off starting in some fertless seed starting mix, or some rockwool.
the best i have ever used, is starting in rockwool, then moving into coco coir in a very small pot, letting the seedlings get rootbound before transplanting. not saying its the best ever, but, upon transplant into bigger pots with advanced nutrients the growth is explosive, my blueberry clones went from 2 inches tall, to a foot and half in a week. granted i have great genetics to work with, but ive used organic mixes, compost, seed starting mix and others.. this method just seems the best so far outside hydro.
