Moving to NM
Ayo, first time checkin out this site. Lookin for some insight on NM's MMJ. Here's my lowdown, I'm 20 and live in AZ atm. Might have a job in NM so I'll be moving that way. I'm not a resident of the state, which I know you have to be. I couldn't find any info on the net about becoming a resident or what validates as being a resident, anything on that would be great.
Once I moved there I'd try to go for a MMJ card since I'm gonna be smoking anyway it's worth a shot. I have legit medical problems, at least for me. Idk if a doctor is gonna believe me when I say I have major back/shoulder pain and insomnia. Never been officially diagnosed with insomnia but it dates back all the way to high school and consists of tossing and turning for at least an hour before I hit the rack, I constantly wake up throughout the night so I'm pretty sure it's legitimate insomnia. As for the back/shoulder pain, that didn't come til I got done with boot camp in the military. Smoking really does help with both of these things. I hope that just because I'm 20 and using two reasons that are kind of hard to prove wrong, the doctor doesn't think I'm bsing. Anyone have similair experiences to this or know if it sounds like I could get a rec?
I refuse to take precription pills, I've seen the addiction that comes with almost all of them. I've also experienced the nausea from vicodin and antidepressants. I've always been against pills even before I tried MJ, I turned down antidepressants in the military because of how I feel about them. I battled the depression for less then amonth, finally gave in and after a couple days on the pills I couldn't stand the sickness it gave me.
Thanks for any feedback too btw, hard to find direct info and people to talk to about a specific states laws.Dunsta Reviewed by Dunsta on . Moving to NM Ayo, first time checkin out this site. Dunsta.....welcome and thanks for your service!
You will have to become a resident of NM in order to be able to participate in the Medical Cannabis Program (MCP).
As far as becoming a resident, I got my NM driver's license and that should suffice for determining your residency in NM. You can also register to vote when you apply for your NM driver's license as well! (I did!)
Here is a link to the MCP website if you have not already been there.....
NM Medical Cannabis Program Website
From the website you can get a ton of your questions answered. Many of us are relatively new to this program (I know I am!) and sometimes it is hard to get answers. I have found that emailing the NMDOH has been very helpful and they have responded to my emails fairly quickly. It seems to be much easier to have questions answered through email vice leaving a phone message for them. Dominick Zurlo, the director of the program, indicated to me when I visited them a couple of weeks ago that email is a quicker way to get a response to any questions you may have. It is much easier for them to respond via email as they do not have a big staff.
From personal experience, documentation of your conditions is very important. Several folks here can help you with doctors that may be able to help you with a recommendation. CoolSlayer frequents the site regularly and has contact information in a thread about seeing a doctor for a recommendation. Here is a link to that thread:
http://boards.cannabis.com/new-mexic...mmend-mmj.html
John Monad is also someone who you may want to contact as well.
From what you indicated in your post, you would probably considering the "Severe Chronic Pain" category. Currently you need TWO recommendations, one from a pain specialist and another from a primary care provider. If you look at the NM DOH site I provided earlier in this post, you can see what they require under this category.
I hope this helps and I am sure others will chime in on this as well!

That's awesome man, hope it works out for you. I was making a very similar post about 3 months ago from 1000 miles away. Everything clicked into place pretty quickly, you'll enjoy it here very much!
Get seeds, learn to garden and take control of your medication.

Medical records proving your condition are a must. The DOH wont approve you if you dont have records showing proof of chronic pain. After that, you have to find 2 doctors to sign off on it before it goes to the department of health for approval. Honestly bro, im 26 and NEVER thought they would approve me, but as long as you have records to back up your claim, it should be pretty easy. Hope this helps, and if you are looking for a doc that is cool, go check out Coolslayers post on how to find an mmj doc.....its just a few threads down the list.
