Hypertension and Marijuana

Unfortunately I don't live in a state with a medical law but have been doing a little research lately and found some info on Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) and Marijuana.

i have been on medication for 1.5 years now and really dislike the side effects of a statin based medicine.

i was wondering if any of you in a mmj state have successfully used hypertension as a reason to obtain a card...

I doubt that. I deeply understand not liking statin's. I am unable to take them and I have high cholesterol and already had a stent. I also happen to have high BP.

The statin is for your cholesterol, not your blood pressure per se. Ya, clogged arteries can increase your heart work load and BP. I doubt very seriously if docs will suggest mmj for high BP regardless of studies.

So, you need to sit down with your doctor and work this out. You can try different statins and maybe another is tolerable to you. Diet and exercise. It sucks the huge weinie, but that is the only other alternative and that is just plain hard work. Essentially eliminate beef, shellfish, poultry skin, saturated fats. Lots of fruits, grains, veggies....what I call girl food....and I am sick of it....but it is better than taking statins.

I do not know how severe your reaction to statins is, but mine was severe musculoskeletal pain, severe depression with suicidal ideation......IT TOOK THE FUC*ERS 15 YEARS to figure it out too. I feel like I got robbed of life.

wow, your side effects were are much worse than mine. Fatigue and some dizziness are really my worst side effects. when i first started taking it i would have to take a nap every day after work and the last couple hours of work were very difficult. i get dizzy at times, but there were a couple episodes early on where i had to sit down and stay for a while. have never experienced dizziness like that.

i guess i have built up some tolerance, although i still take a nap after work about 2-3 times a week. afternoons at work are still difficult and tiresome, but i try to fight through it. i hate it... just zaps my energy level. i started on lisinopril and in addition to the effect mentioned it also caused a severe tickle in my throat that had me coughing all the time. the doc switched me bennicar and i no longer have the throat issue...

i completely understand the diet and life style changes and have made some. but it's hard to stay on such a boring diet and keep exercising regularly. however i have not completely given up on such things...

i just got to thinking about my past is why i was asking. due to being on probation i can no longer freely smoke. i used to be a daily smoker and never had any BP issues until after i had stopped smoking daily. made me very curious after finding some research on the web... it also made me wonder if the weed had helped my BP remain normal when it could have been higher... anyway, thanks for you input.

Had a stroke in Dec and went the whole grains route No Dairy No red meat and the only thing white thats good for you is cauliflower ... I lost 35 pounds since and also my chest pains... My BP is controlled now with 5mgs of lisinipril a day and I smoke about 3 doobies a day... I plan to lose the lisinipril after this bottle... I don't know if Pot lowers BP but I know it doesn't raise it... BMI went from 31 to 26 and I got 10 More pounds to lose... I keep active but with the stroke I really can't exercise yet...

I refused the statins and with diet, my bad cholesterol went from 185 to 146 after 3 months,,, I go for my next reading in a month... the Doc wants LDL "bad" clolesterol to be under 100 which is below the normal average, we will see I still wont take the statins...
