the reason this is a bad law is that it requires police officers to determine the immigration status of anyone who may be suspected of being an undocumented immigrant. Any police officer who doesn't do this can then be sued by anyone. The Phoenix PD, who doesnt want this, says they are already ALLOWED to do this but now they are required to, or face civil lawsuits. So now instead of rolling up on the scene and asking "who raped you? which way did he go?", they have to say "Show me your papers!" or face being sued for any dumb fuck who happens to be standing nearby.

When asked to prove citizenship, for any of us born here, a DL is no good, military id, no good, birth certificate? maybe if original and i have no clue where my original is. and I really dont want to carry it around everyday.

My family has been here for 5 generations and now I may be asked by johhny law to PROVE to him that i belong here! I dont fuckin think so.

Do we need to do something about illegal immigration? Hell yes we do, but this isnt it.

Traveling to AZ soon? So what proof of citizenship do you carry?

Same thing goes for a legal resident.
If you go to cash a check at the bank, do you get insulted when the teller asks for your ID?
If stopped for a ticket, do you get offended when an officer asks for your ID AND proof of your insurance?
When in a foreign country do you get offended when asked for documents you had better possess?
Tough shit if having to cary a green card is such a burden.

And yes, I had a friend went to the jail because there was nobody around that could verify his ID that night. He was riding a bicycle with no light at 1:00 in the morning. Was going home from work, where he had left his wallet.

Since you asked, yes it does piss me off having to provide ID and proof of insurance to the police for every minor traffic infraction. Insurance should not be mandated by the state, nice try though. It is also worth noting I disagree with state issued ID's and social security numbers. The teller analogy is completely off base since we are talking about a private company rather than government. I could easily choose to use another bank if I valued ease of withdrawal over security. There may be a law I'm not aware of requiring banks to check ID's. If that is the case, I think you can figure out where I stand on that.

As to the final question, I don't give a shit what other countries do. So fucking what? If mexico decides rape is ok, should we view it the same way? The fact if I'm in Germany and forget my passport in my hotel room, get harrased by local cops, and taken into custody does not in any way justify us doing the same crap.

And yes, I had a friend went to the jail because there was nobody around that could verify his ID that night. He was riding a bicycle with no light at 1:00 in the morning. Was going home from work, where he had left his wallet.
Again, what difference does this make? That's like saying, "I got arrested for possession so I'm going rat out that dude over there for smoking a joint." How about instead of spreading the injustice to other groups, including illigals, we instead try and change the way citizens are treated by law enforcement and the government in general. There is no reason anyone should be arrested simply for not having an ID on them!

I suppose by that same logic we were completely justified in rounding up the Japs and putting them in cages during WWII, because you know, Hitler was doing it to the Jews.

Which immigrants? The muslim extremeists, the mexican "immigrants", the Chinese prostitutes, the Mariel boatlift crowd, Canadians...?
We know exactly which immigrants. The ones with brown skin that look like they came from Mexico. Don't tell me, "it doesn't say that in the bill." It is clear this entire thing is about illegal mexican immigration, not any other nationality. This is giving the police broad power in questioning people based purely on race. If they see a Mexican, they can easily find an excuse to stop them. It isn't hard for cops to find something that gives them a right to start asking questions.

"Did you see that dude just stumble while walking, we better go see if he is intoxicated and legal."

It's posted on the front door for a reason. Jump through the vastly open hoops and you get the prize. Backdoor us at your own peril. Aren't y'all tired of the illegals stepping on YOUR "civil liberties"?
How are illegals stepping on our "civil liberties?" Please do explain. I'm extremely interessted in hearing this. I don't think you understand the meaning of civil liberties, because I can't imagine what you are referring to.
