    my take on algae pervention!!!

just thought i would make this thread as i have seen afew posts here and there about the subject. light in you're root zone is the main culpret.you will see threads asking how to fix this and you will hear the gambit of responses from duct tape to spray paint.the problem with spray paint is it takes a certain type of primer/paint for it to adhere to the rubber/plastic or else it will just peel off.this ends up costing a small fortune if you have a few bins you are working with besides the pain in the ass it is to do and the time it takes.

same goes with duct tape it's abit pricey nowdays and can be a pain to apply as well.so a few years back after doing the methods above i thought to myself as i do alot how can i do this better, quicker, cheaper?

so here's my quick fix that i have been doing for awhile now.it costs all of around 2 to 2.50$ in supplies and takes about 2 to 5 mins per bin and you are ready to rock.

i used to put up alot of dyi stuff that i came up with but for whatever reason stopped.i might do it again...

ps i just cut a notch in the end of the lid to drop my air stones in and it makes it easy to top off or change nutes out.

ok what you want is the panda film cost around 1.50 a foot and you can buy it at most any hydro shop or online.all you do is cut the panda about an inch or to longer than what it take to tuck up under the lip of the bin.that way you can tuck under and tape you don't need the bottom covered as it is sitting on the ground.then cut the panda wrap a couple inches past to overlap the wrap then tape.

cut a slit on each side of the handles so the wrap will fill it in and tape as needed as shown in pics.i forgot to add that say your bin is 10inches deep you would then cut your wrap at a foot in length then it will open up to i believe 6 ft but don't quote me on that.just wanted to point that out incase you were wondering how to cut to get the most out of the wrap.then in the same fashion you can cut for you're top and depending on you're bin size it should fit right on the fold line of the wrap on each side of the lid.here is a pic of that.

    ps hope this helps
