No need for such big pots for a mother plant. You can keep the plants small such that a 1 or 2 gallon pot is sufficient. Check out this tutorial on Bonsai moms. It's a good read.

When he talks about my plants in 10 gallon pots, he's talking about my two five months of VEG plants. They were completely root bound in 5 gallon pots a couple weeks ago, and all I could find were ten gallon :thumbsup:.

However, if your talking about his mother plant. He started that plant in a huge pot, THEN decided it was his mother. I gave him the mum link about two months ago, which gave him the idea (I think).

Root bound in a five gallon pot... five months of veg... wow you must be growing a tree! Sorry for the confusion. That bonsai tutorial put me on the right track. So easy.

My Mom isn't quite the right shape but could produce an interesting bonsai after a while,.... I'm really wanting to keep a cutting off of her and do it right, so I'm going to up-pot her to keep her happy, and probably just keep her trimmed back for a few months, then when I have my dedicated flowering room built and light, toss her in 10 gallons and see a single plant SOG.

Right now if I cut her for every clone she's worth I'd get about 25, and still have enough foliage left on her for her to re-veg.


Everything else is progressing nicely.

Dianna has stretched enough that I had to move the light up some,... so now I have to find something else to put under Gia to get her closer to the light, and I need to start training Gia's branches since a couple of them are pushing 4" long now.

Pistles are popping out everywhere, tho they're all still really small pre-flowers.

You have other options. You could just prune the roots by 6" all around and and then again in 2 months time to get her down to size. Alternatively, you could take a few clones and grow them out to get a new mom and then send the original into flower.

Thanks Bigs, Mom's canopy is about 2x2' and supports about 30 viable clones. I'd have to trim the crap out of that too,.... Not quite sure what I'm gonna do after seeing some suspect growth on Gia thursday night.:wtf:

This was on a lower branch, and there were no signs of pistles any where on that branch, there's another branch that has 2 preflowers that look the same, but there's pistles in the main growth bud at the top of it, so I'm going to let those develop a bit more and be certain before I trim anything else out.

The rest of the plant is covered in pistles like Diana's top is, no signs of any sack like formation.

Have you ever seen the video 'Mr. Greens I Grow Chronic' ? He Harvests 4 oz every 2 months, with a 400w hps, co2, in a ebb and flow grow system.

As far as the suspect growth is concerned, I trimmed off all the suspect sacks with an exacto, and both of the girls are on herm watch! :wtf::detective1:
Fortunately neither one is showing any tranny signs above the lowest branches, and even mom has been showing pre-flowers with all pistles sticking out of them recently.
So I suspect the sacks on the lower branches of this set of clones is due to the extreme stress the plant was under at the time I took the cuttings.
Time will tell, Wish me luck. :jointsmile:



I kicked my Mother plants ass tonight!

Only took 16 clones,... (kinda ran out of patience to do more ) Might have to just prune the remaining tops out in order to maintain my "bonsai" I just hate wasting what could be a viable plant. :hippy:

I've replaced the El'Cheapo 400w HPS with a PlantMax bulb and must say I like the spectrum MUCH more than the first one, I cant wait to see how the plants respond.
