Jiffy pots, yay or nay? Some sources seem to feel it's the cat's meow, others say it renders the medium too acidic...which is it?

To my pals who have built their own LED grow lights, what's a good source of power LED's? Since I'm stuck with the crappy Made in China UFO, why don't I refit it with the appropriate LED's?
