CFL GROW / 440w / Very Detailed
440w CFL Bathroom Grow / 14 Days Old from Seeds / VERY DETAILED
Hey Everyone...
I've been looking at these forums for years with helps to my problems / questions / thoughts..
Finally, the other day I was baked online, and figured I might as well.
14 days ago, I decided to grow. I'm good with soil (tomatoes, basil, cilantro, etc), but I don't typically like going that route. I really don't remember why I stopped; I guess it was the overly-abundant mite infestation.
I'm starting to have a problem. I don't have any clue what my pH is because I live outside the states now, and here, a tester is an impossible thing to find.. I could try to order one, but most won't ship here. For starters..Is there any other way I could test my pH? I know about coffee grinds & organic lime, but is there a way to see when it's more acidic or not?
Also, I'm attaching pics. These plants ARE green..Actually, same shade as when I go hydro. BUT, the camera is not picking it up very well. I tried to use all different types of lighting to get the pics as you can see, I'm sure. The problem I having is that once you can decipher that the plants are green in the pics, you'll be able to see the on 2 plants, the bottom leaves are sickening yellow! One of these plants' stem is very tough like a twig, however, I'm not sure if it's going to make it, or hardening because it's dying? The other has a beautiful healthy stem, strong root system, and just the bottom set of leaves is my concern. What could be causing this? Or, is it that the bottom leaves are dying as they are what produces the food for roughly the first 2 weeks of the plant's life?
By the way, I'm late to mention it. I decided to do a CFL grow. I've been enjoying reading the debate on them for at least the last year. I have a 400hps light (brought it from the states), but I'd really like to try a CFL grow to see if I can do it.
I'm using:
7-(65w) bulbs in total. 455 watts of total power w/ 18,900k.
They are:
(3) 65w Warm White 2700k
(4) 65w Daylight 2700k
**Only six are lit up in the pic. Knocked one out while trying to get a decent angle.
Lights are hung across a metal shower rod about 3" above the plant. The only MAYBE possible burn I could see, is on the one with the slightly, ever so slightly, brown on the outside of the tip of the leaf. I'm not sure what it is. Temperature is 90-94 degrees during day with lights, 85 at night without (Daytime, 12Midnight-6pm/Night-time, 6pm-12Midnight). Before someone goes hostile about the temperature, keep in mind, I live in Asia. These are Asian strains as well. They are accustomed to the heat, and grow to this temperature. If you are unfamiliar, please do not talk about the heat the plants should be in. I have studied into this, A LOT!
Bathroom is covered with black tarp, then covered completely with aluminum foil. There are absolutely no light leaks, and sleep has never been interrupted except for power loss on two separate instances for 2 days due to power outage (5 & 4 days ago are when the happened).
I don't have a fan in there constantly, but I have it aggressively circulating the room's air supply for about an hour a day. I know, I know, should be more. I'm just having trouble finding something that I can fit in there with keeping the door closed. Most of the "house fans" in Asia are big fucking industrial fans on a little mount. You turn it on low, and the plants would probably fly away.
The plants are 14 days old. 7 of them. I started them in jiffy trays, but without the mix or whatever. Just literally the 35 hole/cup tray. I just find it easier to manage / throw away. I also did an under soil germination. Typically, I would use paper towel method, but typically, I wouldn't use CFL's either.
They sprouted in 36 hours. I couldn't really believe it, but it was. At first, I thought I was fucked because I thought the root system had come out the top. Anyways, they started to really sprout and have their first set of leaves fully spread by sometime in the 3rd day. Now, 14 days later, I think they are looking big considering they are buried just a tiny bit past halfway the height of the plant. What do you think? Maybe, maybe Indicas? I'm not sure what the strand is. However, it's good in edibles. The buddy that is my connection so to speak cooks all of it, so I never even see it firsthand. He saves the seeds, and then proceeds to make seafood hemp casserole.
I've transplanted them once, from the jiffy's to my homemade contraption. I went out and bought plant pots, plant trays, etc. Waste of money when I got back and realized how I needed to set it up. I'm working in a 3 1/2" wide, 4' deep, 11' high. So, I brought a table into the bathroom (sets over toilet), put on top a rubbermaid-type blastic drawer. Then OVER that, is a upside down drawer holder? The frame piece I guess. I've cut the entire middle out a bit smaller than the size of the plastic drawer underneath (for catching water; which would be great for testing my pH, however, I can't get a tester). Above that, another drawer full of approx 15 nice sized drain holes, as in, about a dime. There is a layer of rocks underneath, not solid packed, so that the water can drain more smoothly. I'm wondering how many more weeks in soil before they will start sexing? I really don't wanna miss it. I mean, there's a 7 day gap, but we all know how stoned we can get. I'm not keeping all 7...only the females. I really hope there's only 2 because I'd hate to have to get rid of a beautiful girl; Don't know if I could haha. I'd just like to keep the smell down, and I really only grow for my personal pleasure. Of course, I smoke it as well, but I like the challenge, and watching a brown seed turn into a beautiful plant. There's just something about it that makes it special when you're not doing it to make a dime. You get to take your time, raise her just right!
I'll probably stay with the same amount of light. I've used 400hps on more than 2 plants; I'm sure I can make this work. I'm planning to Screen of Green these, whenever they get tall enough. I made add a couple more lights, but only if the CFL's can't reach a certain area with this method.
Judging as best you can from the age and growth rate comparison, how much more vegetation time do you think I would need? I know it would only be a rough estimate. But, I'm wondering when these fuckers are going to sprout high. I have no idea anymore how long it takes in soil. My tomatoes are different, they take weeks!
Suggestions / Comments, ANSWER TO MY QUESTIONS, feel free!
Please no foul comments. We're all here to enjoy our successful attempts at medicine / hobbies / peace of mind.
**Also, the nutient mix that I'm using for Nitrogen is derived from urine. Yes, yes, I know..But, I've used this many times for soil (tomatoes) & hydroponics, and it has worked great! I got the idea about 4 years ago from online, and it seemed uncomfortably reasonable. So, I started using it, and it's proven to be very effect time and time again. Urine is very high in N.
OF COURSE, you would stop using a month before harvest just to be on the safe side. Ironically, it flushes out without a problem!
** oh and watering...When it's dry 6mm down, I water..This is of course an estimate, but the top is crusting, etc..Please don't ask things that are newbie. Believe me, it's already been checked if that's the case.
Thanks!
*addition: Thinking of switching 12/12 to sex plants?
*please check my photo album for the plants . They are all from today! Thanks for any info in advance. I will be checking this frequently!Actingteacher Reviewed by Actingteacher on . Good luck to ya though.

Homey's Growroom & Dopehouse? God, you're more of a moron than I could have imagined that would answer on here. I was in a bike wreck 3 years ago, and have been using marijuana for medicinal purposes since. Of course, most of us enjoy the recreational benefit, too, which is how we are so open-minded to using marijuana as a medication..it's because we've already , at one point in our lives, experienced the pleasant effect of cannabis. As stated in my post, I'm not posting to get some jackass' all-powerful, omniscient view of soil growing. I'm posting to get advice from fellow patients.
Go get a freshwater aquarium ph test kit. Costs under $10 US. Won't work for runoff ph, but is fine for ingoing (clear) water.
**If you can't add 2 + 2, don't post prick. As I stated, I cannot find a pH kit. I've not disclosed my location to you & I think I'm more than capable of knowing whether or not I can get it here. I'm where I'm at as part of work, and it's not industrial, so there's not as many products in the entire "city" as their are in Wal-mart for instance.
**Secondly, "Rusty", if you would have actually read, you would see that the pictures are "located in my album".
Cool. I've lived it a lot. I live in the desert southwest where temps exceed 110 daily during the summer. But I still have to protect seedlings, as should you. Their genetics may be well-suited to the heat, but a little care goes a long way. No swamp coolers or air conditioners in Asia?
**If there's no heat stress being endured by the plants, and humidity is at a good level, what does it matter??
Yes, cannabis can grow under 24 hours of light, but that doesn't mean it's better for them.
**What the hell are you talking about? I clearly stated that day time begins at midnight until 6pm, then lights out for 6 hours, and then back on for another 18. That would be an 18/6 light schedule. 24?? Read before you reply to the damn post. There is a reason why I made it so detailed, and that's because I want someone with a bit of education to answer.
" Please no foul comments. We're all here to enjoy our successful attempts at medicine / hobbies / peace of mind."
Rusty-
I'll bet it smells great in your closet. Good luck pissing your plants away. But I would love to see the pictures of your last successful grow. (you're trying to act like you have experience, but your comments seem to belie your knowledge base)
Also, IMHO when a newbie comes in and starts putting demands and requirements on type, quality and tone of the info we offer, he can usually go fuck himself. ***Look, you prick..You are the reason MANY people hate signing up for the forums. I enjoyed it for the last few years, reading, and being silent. Then when I decided to join & get some questions answered, I get a prick commenting. If you want an editorial, go apply for the local newspaper. However, I'm just here to get help on my soil grow.
My post was entirely respectful to the forum & the community, and you've managed to entirely prove why some dumbasses should never be allowed the privilege of posting.
I'm not demanding answers with a foul demeanor. I'm like any other person who wants answers to his questions. If you don't want to be the one to respectfully provide the answer, then don't post. It's very simple, and any educated person could handle it.
***For future posts, use some common courtesy. We're all here to achieve alike goals, and there's no reason to be arrogant.
Thanks in advance to all of the OTHER posters.

For the record, most people on the forums don't visit the social networking side of the site. It might be a good idea to put your pics in your profile in the forums before you insert foot too deeply in mouth.
To me, it doesn't look too bad. I'm guessing that you just transplanted them within the last couple of days. If you have, let them be for another couple days. After you transplant most of the growth is going to occur in the roots for a while, then the plant will shoot up once it has a good base.
Try looking at the sticky in the plant problems section and fill out a troubleshooting form. However eloquent your explanations may be, I'm turned off just sifting through all the useless info. Don't take offense, i'm not here to fight, just trying to get you the information you need.
Hope you find the answer you want to hear.

NOW THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO HEAR! The only reason the pics were posted in album rather than in the forum itself is because yesterday while trying to upload them, the site was down. Something odd was going on with it, have no idea what, and it wouldn't take. So I decided to upload them into the album so that people, that would be kind enough to help, would be able to see exactly what I'm talking about.
I transplanted about a 4 days ago now. But from a jiffy tray to a larger container, I could completely see how there would be MUCH, MUCH more space to grow underneath.
And, no offense taken. All the useless info was DEFINITELY posted for a reason. Being an observer for the last couple years of the forums, I've realized that the more info you include, the less morons that will reply.
For example, people asking if I'm using distilled water...etc...Things like that should be a given, or you shouldn't even be growing. I just didn't want to waste the plant's time in case this was an EXTREMELY immediate action that needed to be resolved. I grow in hydroponics. I have two setups, and both, have been with me for a few years now. I purchased them offline, and it's been an easy setup (except if they leak).
Thanks for the input, truly appreciate it!

Oooo...got yer panties in a wad I see. Curious if this behavior and your previous conditions on posting are acceptable where you come from, or did you come here specifically to pre-insult and make demands on the help we might offer? Either way, I'm much more prone to help someone using this site for it's intended and stated purpose, (use and growing of medical cannabis) rather than someone that knows everything already and puts demands on the help they supposedly need. A handy contradiction. Good luck. Someone will likely help ya figure it out.

LOOK, CHILD...I came here in hopes of getting solutions to my problems. Not to have an online argument. Really?! WTF man! If you don't like the way I present a question, then feel free to NOT answer it. I'd much rather the help of an individual who can actually read AND understand everything I wrote. Some of your answers were solutions to problems that DON'T even come into play here. Like the lighting...that was retarded to mention considering I had specifically stated that I don't have the lights on 24/7. READ! Also, as stated, I grow on a 18/6 light schedule as of now. BUT, no where can you give me a fact from a proven source that 24 hours light is harmful. Actually, some people prefer to grow with that. I, however, like to stay to the 18/6. Something about the darkness period makes me feel more at ease with it all considering that's how I did my first grow. If you have anything else to say, why don't you take it to your own thread, and let people that are willing to help, well...HELP! Stop filling up the page with your idiotic BS! AGAIN, I don't have any idea why you keep referring to medical marijuana. I've been a cardholder of California for 3 years, and now that I'm living in Asia, it's not a valid form of medication. I get sick off of pills, so therefore, MJ is the best herbal remedy. Although, it's really none of your business waht I use it for. I don't sit here and make fun of your wife for having Hep C, now do I?

One last tidbit of advice before i go out in a blaze. As someone who has had his fair share of disagreements with Rusty in my time here, i have also learned from him. He's been a valuable resource around here and he's definitely not the idiot you have him figured for. He's very steadfast in his opinions, and normally very eloquent about delivering them. Sometimes it's the delivery that's rubbed me wrong, but you learn to live with it. It takes all types of personalities to make a community work. Trust me, he is one of the few around here who can actually get you from where you are to where you want to be. There's a reason he's been here as long as he has. If he didn't want to help he would have left us for good a long ass time ago. Just like you want to weed out the idiots from responding to your posts, we want to weed out the idiots from our community. We around here, we need our Rusty's among us, Ya dig?
That being said, if you didn't like his response, you too could have simply ignored it. You didn't. You chose to poke back, why? Just thought that question should be asked.
I had something much nicer written here, but then i went back and read your last post again, and i can't help but feel that you commenting at all about his wife was way way out of bounds. I don't even know what to say now.:asskick:

Hope I don't get 'topped' for sticking me nose in and offering my :twocents:...
In the immortal words of Samuel Jackson, in the role of Mister Senior Love Daddy in Spike Lee's 1989 cultural NY epic /Do/The/Right/Thing/..:
"Yo! Hold up! Time out! TIME OUT! Y'all take a chill! Ya need to cool that shit out! And that's the double truth, Ruth!"
ActingTeacher... believe it or not, Rusty was just tryin' to be hep'ful. Really. Sometimes he does come across as a bit of a curmudgeon, but he knoweth his shite. Don't agree with everything he says, but he's got waaay more experience than I do at this stuph, so I am likely to defer to his opinion over my own, even though his delivery is sometimes, well, a wee bit /brusque/...
Rusty... I don't think he meant the 'preconditions' thing like you took it... he was in his own way just trying to head off the idiot responses, and ask for the intelligent ones, and, well, who here /hasn't/ mis-stated something or other at least once...? I bet if you two met over a beer or something, you'd both hit it off because you're both reeeeally into actual info, and short with the idio-droids
irydyum: blessed are the peacemakers... even more blessed when they turn up such peace-inducing plants...love yer grows
To close, I offer the immortal words of the White Bartender (on the other side o' the tracks) in the movie /Crossroads/ (the Ralph Macchio one, not the stupid Britney Spears thing)...
"Now let's everybody git back to DRINKIN'!"
