Sunshine #4 is probably the easiest way to go (it is what I use) - it is not soil per se but a well draining medium (it is almost impossible to over water) that contains no nutes; that way you only have what nutrients you put in. It only comes in big bags and costs $40-$50 but that much lasts me a year or more. My nutes are advanced nutrients sensi grow / bloom - pretty inexpensive compared to some of the other stuff out there. Then some molasses after flowering starts....
