Day 46 pics... am I on track?

Hi Lampost - I am curious, did you ever order that loupe? I ordered one that the ad said it was 30X but when I got it it turned out to be only 20X.. since it was so cheap I kept it (it works fine) but buyer beware on those chinese-made loupes.

Also, my purple kush strain looks a lot different than yours - did you get your clone locally? Now, if you tell me you grew it from seed, then I will know better

Yeah, I picked up a loupe at a nearby hydro shop. It was also supposed to be 30x and I paid like $13 for it. I think it's 10x at best!! I think I can see the trichs well enough to make a judgement though. The ambers are bit hard to see...

I either have Granddaddy Purps or Purple Kush! I'm not exactly sure which it is, but it was clone only. I thought they were the same at the time, but I don't believe they are... I can find out for sure in the next few days. The GDP/PK was a dud plant in early flowering, but now it's looking like really tasty, frosty nugs!

Well, I'm at day 52 now. Took a sample bud off of the LA Confidential, which is supposed to be 48-56 days. I think I may take it at 60 days. Root aphids suck. My yield has been totally squashed, but it looks like the nugs will be very frosty and tasty. Here's a sample bud freshly cut and trimmed at day 52!! Trichs are mostly cloudy at this point with a few clear. I noticed a VERY psychedelic high!!

Looking pretty good. The bug problem might well have delayed harvest date. (you should likely add on the healing time to final harvest date)
What nutrients and additives are you using? Any bulking agents, CalMag, or molasses...? Have you used anything to re-green the leaves?

Pistils are never an indication of plant maturity. Trichomes and prior strain experience are the best (only) guide. A 5x magnifying glass is the weakest I can use to check trichome progress. Once I figured-out what I was looking for, I haven't used my 100x Radio Shack pocket microscope.

The pot not drying-out is a problem. More perlite next time and perhaps some holes in the sides of the pot. If not allowed to dry between waterings, root rot is a definate possibility, and the extra humidity isn't welcome in flower, either. (potential for bud mold)

Thanks RT. I'm using Humboldt Nutrients Organic Line: Grow Natural, Bloom Natural, and Deuce Deuce. Unfortunately, plants missed feeding for 2-3 weeks while I was busy treating with root aphids. So, they definitely could've taken more food. I did use some Grow Natural to try to re-green the leaves, but it didn't seem to work... it maybe slowed down the yellowing a bit. These root aphids are fierce!!

I'm also using Hygrozyme to help plants recover from root aphids... and a little superthrive here and there. Pretty proud to say that I've remained entirely organic even through spider mite, root aphid, and fungus gnat battles. And yield wasn't totally squashed. This Mr Nice plant seems almost invincible!! It was one of the most heavily infested with root aphids and was the only one to make a strong recovery. I think it had an extremely extensive root system (since it was so big and fast-growing) that it was able to make due with a small amount of damaged roots.

well you said you arent gonna have good yeilds well just save the triming and make some hash you can see how frosty the trimings are in the background in that pic of that bud

^Thanks guys. I'm planning on trying to get some bubble bags (Wacky bags) ASAP! There is a lot of frosty trim and I'm hoping to get a few grams of nice hash. Some of the crappy lower buds will go in with the trim...

I'll update yields, but it'll be a few weeks yet as the Sour D will go about 70-77 days... :rastasmoke:

That looks a lot like the LSD I grew last round - trippy high and really tight nuggets, yield not so good though, so I am going all PK this time. You're right, those loupes are just barely good enough to be useful.. that sucks about the aphids; next time around you will be amazed at your grow once those little vampires are gone! I cant believe how good my plants look now that I am rid of the mites

These are apparently a rare strain called Granddaddy Purple Kush (GDPK)!! I asked him if it was GDP or PK and he basically told me GDPK, so I don't know if it's a cross between Granddaddy Purps and PK, but nonetheless it looks like the tastiest purple nugs I've ever seen!! I can't wait to get some nug shots. It's going to be going another 5-10 days though. The yield is pathetic. I'm hoping to get at least 1/2 - 1 OZ between 2 plants.

I fucked up tonight and forget to close the curtain. The HIDs went out but they were exposed to indirect incandescents for 20 minutes into their dark cycle!!! I'm so pissed at myself for this! I hope they don't hermie on me!!

I'm wondering whether I should give them 12 hours of darkness and postpone the schedule by 20 minutes. Or just keep them on the regular schedule and they only get 11hrs 40mins of darkness tonight. What do you think?!

that little 20 minutes isnt going to do anything! flowering hormones are so strong, 20 minutes isnt going to do nything. i do that all the time. some growers try to push more than 12 on flowering, but i dont know of any proof that it works better.

ive done quite a few experiments with switching plants from flowering to veg, clipping flowering clones, etc. and some strains will not even switch back because of how strong their flowering hormones are! (sour d is tough)

ive also grown hydro in clear containers for months w no algea!

ive also been trying to get my flower room to having the lights on 12 at night to manage heat. to do this, ive been cutting it back an average of 30 min a day with no problems at all. my advice would be to take it easy and dont beat yourself up ofer stuff like that.

i also purposely let light in my flower room through the cracks of the doors to mimic twilight which is natural. i also have air purifiers in there and they have pretty bright leds on them too. no problems colorful fast growing flowers!

looks really good for a grow you had a battle with.
I own the wacky bags and I love them. Work great. Not as heavy duty as the OG bubble bags but well worth the money. i have had no problems with mine.
