I agree about Obama's health plan being messed up. The thing that bothers me about this thread is words like the ones quoted above. Good God man, is that the way you feel about all homeless people? About all people who are poor? Like they are so much vermin that the world would be better off without.

I'm sorry for going off topic, but it really bothers me when man has such disdain for man. I couldn't sleep well tonight if I didn't express my displeasure. And for what reason? Just because they are poor. Because they aren't in the same social class as them. It is thoughts like that keep people down.

If people who have would take the time to talk to these people, they would find there are a lot of good people out there who help one another even when it hurts. They just don't have a lot of money for one reason or the other. The reasons are as varied as the people who have them.

I read something long ago that really makes sense to me. "God makes kings out of paupers, and paupers out of kings". When one man thinks he is better than another because of their wealth, they show how poor they are in spirit.

Wouldn't it serve your peace of mind better to lift the less fortunate up, rather than grind them into the dust.

I'm not trying to be mean to you, I only want peace and for people to care about one another.

Not at all......i lived out of a stolen Uhaul truck in chicago and shot heroin for a year...and then I decided to change....moved home and kicked the habit....GOT A JOB...straightened MY OWN life out with NO help. Then slowly worked my own way through college..I take care of myself and my family and you should to.

Was that a home you owned, or was it your parents house? Maybe a friend in your home town. Perhaps you had enough money to rent a place.

When you kicked the habit, did you go cold turkey? (I've seen cold turkey, and it isn't pretty. In fact, it can kill you.) Perhaps you had enough money to pay for treatment to kick.

If you did all that, with absolutely no help of any kind, you are my hero.

Did you know you have two families? One of them is close to you. The other is the rest of the human race.

Oh well, people see what they want to see... I lived in Holland for a year also, loved it, trying to move back there.

Obviously if you hang out in the 'hostels' and big cities you'll see all kinds of people. But that's no way to judge a whole country! BTW I never mentioned anything about Norway...

Kicked the heroin cold turkey......went to a friends house in Austin to get clean....worst flu lasting 2 weeks to get off. Heroin is identicle to Oxy in getting clean and easier than script drugs like xanax and vicoden which take months to kick physically and psychologically.

I loved Holland.....thought it was nice....certainly wouldn't raise my son there...but will take him there in Dec. to visit his family...then take the ferry from the Hook of Holland to Harwich to see my mother side of the family.

Im quite content with my life here...made it ya know...came out on top after a CRAZY YOUTH....abusive stepfathers, drug addiction, fathers death, being sent away when I was 12 to a military school in Missouri..Kemper. And I did it all by myself....never took welfare or ANY type of assistance to come out on top.....cause Im a MAN. Not a pee-on or freeloader. Im against the govt. takeover of healthcare cause they dont do anything correctly...nothing. And the military governs itself. So you did get help from someone. It's ok to seek help when we need it. After all, we are fallible human beings, and sometimes even the best of us need help. You got to get that help where you find it.

Sure, there are a lot of people who milk the system. Any time there is any kind of system in place, people will try to exploit it for selfish gains.

One time I got laid off a job, so I applied for food stamps and unemployment to keep me afloat while I looked for other work. After about 1.5 months I found a good job. I didn't need the food stamps any more, so I called them and told them to stop sending them. The next month the food stamps arrived any way. It took 4 months of sending them back and letters and phone calls to get them to stop sending them.

I guess the people working at the food stamp office have a vested interest in having people on food stamps.

The point is, when people need help, people should get it. The people who get the help should try their best to once again become self sufficient, if they are physically and/or mentally able.
