@Islandborn;

Not only do I dislike passing bills without a vote, I also dislike lumping people into groups. One can not say all the people without health insurance don't have it because of some fault they have. It is not accurate to say everyone who gets public assistance is a leech.

Take myself for instance. I worked in the aircraft industry for 30 years. Then I became very unstable. The instability was in my mind and body. It affected my job in undiserable ways. After a while I became poor and hopeless. Why did this happen to me? Was it my fault? Maybe.

I was found to have hepatitis C. Hepatitis C not only affects the liver, but it also affects the brain too. Lucky for me I am a veteran. I can go the VA hosptile and get treated for this free.

Now there is nothing I want more than to get cured and back to work on aircraft. Here is the problem. The treatment for HCV will be 48 weeks. Few people who under go HCV treatment tolerate the side effects well enough to be a stable employee at any job. So what am I to do in the mean time?

This is what I do. I collect food stamps. I applied for SSD/SSI and state assastance. I do this with the goal of getting cured and back to work. Do I have shame about collecting help from the government? The answer to that is a great big no. I have paid taxes all my life. Those taxes have been used to help others and to do other things the government thinks needs done. Now That I need help, I pretty much believe I deserve it.

Sure there are people who use the system for less than honorable things. Things like getting out of working. There are also people who are genuine. I would wager most of them are the latter.

Shoud we cut it all out because of a few bad seeds? I think not. All the people of the United States, and the world for that matter, are our brothers and sisters. If any one of them need help, they should have it.

Islandborn, I am glad you have it going for you. I pray you never have to depend on others. Please don't paint yourself into a corner with speech. No one know what tomorrow brings. For you I hope your tomorrows are all good, but remember, nothing in life is a sure thing.
