Medical marijuana advocate Daniel Maniscalco faces a Superior Court hearing Friday in Salinas on a felony count of possessing and transporting marijuana for sale.

The charge was filed against Maniscalco, 26, of Monterey, on Dec. 22 by Monterey police for allegedly sending or receiving marijuana via UPS.

He appeared for arraignment Jan. 14 and was in court Monday, when Friday's arraignment was set for 9:15 a.m. in Superior Court Department 9.

Maniscalco had proposed opening a medical marijuana dispensary in Sand City in September and one in Pacific Grove last month.

Both cities enacted temporary bans on such dispensaries.

In addition, the city of Pacific Grove filed a civil complaint against Maniscalco on Wednesday, barring him from opening a marijuana dispensary called The Apothecary Inc. at 115 Central Ave.

At the time notice was served on the injunction, Maniscalco said no marijuana transactions had taken place on the property.

Maniscalco remains free on his own recognizance.
