    Adding MH Light During Flowering?

I am working on my first grow. I have four white widow plants in a little grow tent. It's probably two or two and a half feet square. I know you're supposed to use MH for the veg period, but I already had a 150w HPS so I just used that to grow my plants. Everything has gone fine and they are in great shape. I am almost four weeks into flowering. My two most mature plants just started showing easily visible trichomes on the leaves a few days ago. It is pretty squished in that tent and there isn't much light making it down the plants very far. The plants are really tall too which doesn't help. I'm assuming that might have something to do with growing them with HPS. I'd say the plants are about 4.5' right now. I've had leaves on the bottom couple nodes dying due to a lack of light since the plants got so big.

That should give you a good idea where I'm at. Now my question is would it help much if I added a 400w MH kind of aiming in from the side of the plants so they can get light farther down the plant and it will help brighten up the top too? I obviously know it will help, but do you think it will make a big enough difference to be worth while? It will take me about a week to get the light here so I'll be about half way through flowering. I was thinking about getting a 400w MH for my next grow anyway so if it will help much on this grow I might just go ahead and buy it now. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I think at this point, even the 400w will have trouble penetrating all the way down. But yes, a 400w added would help a lot.

Have you thought about getting a switchable ballast? Then you can run MH and HPS from the same ballast...

You could still do some low stress training at this point to bend and tie the tops down to even out the canopy a little, just don't go too crazy with it. Bend them a little now, little later (day or two). About 6 hours after watering is a good time.
