Seeds vs clones

I grow both clones and seeds, in soil and have noticed that seed grows are slow and not as healthy as the clone grows. They both get the same nuts and lighting. Anyone have any thoughts on this ?

I've only worked with clones. I've sprouted a few seeds just out of curiosity, but usually dump them for fear they could be males and ruin my girls! Clones are good because you already know what you are dealing with. You know it's female and of good genetics based on what it was clipped from. :jointsmile:

Once you find a strain you really like you can clone off of that and have no worries about buying them or seeds anymore....i hear seeds are expensive!

Depends where you're growing. Inside, I like clones better. Outside, I like seedlings.

Seedlings have a better, more hardy, natural plant structure. They can survive a strong wind/rain with minimal damage. You don't have to tie them up as extensively either. They also yield up to 40% more than their clone counterparts outdoors. Unfortunately, you better be prepared to brutally kill your largest plant, among about half of the others. The biggest ones tend to be male.

Clones are good because they are 99% female. And although they may not get quite as large as seedlings, they can still put up some serious numbers. I stated before that I'm not a fan of the bushy, unnatural structure of clones, and all the tying up associated with them.

Both have their flaws, and benefits outdoors. But I'd much rather grow clones indoors, since the plants never really get big enough to have to extensively tie, and I can't risk seeds.

One is a biological infant, one is a biological teen. Wadda you expect...?
I usually clone, but I easily have a couple of dozen strains and crosses, and keeping dozens of moms at the same time isn't going to happen. Seeds are the only way to keep all these strains for when I want to use 'em. (variety keeps it interesting)

Practice more, read more, and understand that each has it's place in a growroom. Plus, it doesn't do any good comparing apples and oranges.

Some folks don't have the whole cloning process down yet, and are more comfortable relying on seeds. :thumbsup:

About once a year I like to add a 'new' plant and go with seed. As the older Moms get older, they loose the vigorous activity that a younger plant will possess.

Yet, Rusty has it right, you have a baby/child/adolescent that will become an adult and provide medicine for you.

Let the baby grow at it's pace and you will be rewarded with a very nice addition.
