    1st grow.. lighting question?!?!?

Ok.. So I just made a ghetto setup from spare parts in my basemet. The space has a lot of room and i have a lighting question. I bought 15 pots filled them up with dirt and my bag seeds should be germinating in a day or two. Take a look at the picture.. my plan is to buy a 1000 hps light will it be enough?

Hopefully, someone with more exp than me will respond. But, If u huddle them together ,with a decent reflector. Ill bet u do alright....

I know there is a plant per watt ratio, just not sure what it is . lol G.L

I'd start the seedlings in dixie cups instead, then transplant into those containers after a week or two. :twocents:

The footprint of a 1000w is about 5 x 5 (ft.) with the right reflector. If you have a long growroom, maybe 2 x 600w would work better (600's are also the most efficient in terms of lumens per watt. One covers about a 4 x 4 area, again with the right reflector).

There are also different kinds of light movers available. Basically the light moves on a track back and forth to cover a longer area, and you can keep the light at a closer distance than if it was stationary.

A lot will depend on how large you want the plants to get, and if you're planning to fill up the whole area, etc.. Keeping those lights cool and room temps in range will probably be the biggest issue you have to deal with. Either that or keeping the room warm when the lights are off.

    Happy growing
