feminized seeds question
In a conversation a few years ago someone told me that they could put hormones or something like that on the plants and cause the seeds to become feminized. They suggested that this is what the seed banks do to give guaranteed fem seeds.
Anyone heard of this - Rustytrichome or any one.
Otherwise what are the seed banks doing. Just sending out hermis.

feminized seeds question
To make femmed seeds, you need to stress a lady. The results of the stress bring-out the self-preservation technique inherent in all strains, (the ability to self-pollinate) thus continuing the strain. This is not to be confused with a natural hermaphrodite that grows-up expressing both sexes.
When a lady is stressed to this point, she'll either pump-out her own pollen, or die trying. This pollen has no donor male chromosomes, and per biology...can olny make female offspring. (femmed seeds) Once stressed and showing nanners, you can either segregate her and let her continue to self-pollinate, or you can carefully collect the pollen, and pollinate other ladies in your growroom. All of the mature seeds will be female. (the tricky part is not pollinating everything in the growroom, so experience and care are necessary)
There are acids, hormones, steroids, heavy metal solutions... that have been used to stress the ladies just to the point of pumping-out the pollen, but I have a big problem with allowing our cannabis seed stock to be bastardized by these gene-altering chemicals and crap. Stress the same seed-stock often enough and hard enough, you'll risk permenantly screwing-up the genes. Breed with those damaged genes, and all future seeds from that stock will risk degradation.
Some techniques risk genetic damage more-so than others, which is why I use (chemical-free) light poisoning most of the time. No genetic damage.
I've heard of many stressing techniques like using temperature extremes (real hot days, real cold nights) or overmaturing to get the same result, but I've never used those techniques in my growroom.

feminized seeds question
If you're going to destroy the stressed lady anyway, I can see where root rot wouldn't be a concern.
But I usually re-veg the donors. (they re-veg without nanners)

feminized seeds question
Thanks for the specific info Rusty. I can see why some folks think their hermaphrodite plants are doing the same thing you do when stressing a female. It sounds like you are able to produce the desired results without creating the dreaded hermis.
I have noticed that when an entire plant produces one or two seeds they usually turn out to be 50/50 male or female and are not usually hermis. Do you think that some plants will produce just one or two male parts (not sure if nanners is the technical term) that are buried inside the bud and each pollinate just enough to create a single seed next to where they are in the bud. Or do you think it is more likely that some stray pollen just traveled in from a mile or more away.

feminized seeds question
Yesterday I was given a seedy bud from a friend. The bud is Purple kush, However the plant was fertilized by an AK-47 that hermi'd near by. SO, I'm new to all this, but it sounds like I now have 12 feminized seeds of this unintentional crossing.
Is this correct?A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government.
I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country.
