When do you guys decide to Flower?

EXCELLENT question.

That depends on your grow area size. Some go for size/height. Some go by weeks.

The true answer is whatever works best for your environment.

If you let them get too big before the flower room, the bottoms will not get enough light and the plants could stress. Too small and there is a slightly lower amount of product. Some think it makes the plant stronger and more potent to be bigger, but this is not the case in my observations.

Myself, I let them get about a foot tall. Notice the word 'about', nothing is exact with me. I have a buddy that just got his card, and gave him some plants. Well he went a grew the heck out of them, doesn't have enough light, and is only penetrating about 2 feet. He, of course is thrilled, it is his first grow. Unfortunately, when he harvests and sees the difference between his grow and my grow of the exact same plant, I am afraid he will see the error of his ways. He needs at least 2 more lights in flower to keep up to these huge plants.

So, if I put them in at 12-16 inches, the sativa's get 4-4.5 feet tall, the indicas get about 3 feet high. These are under 1400 watts, most all is 9 weeks to harvest on average.

With all this jabbering, my point is, height versus light. Adjust timing your moving plants to flower with this in mind. Also, I have a perpetual garden,so this is a constant process.

I move 'em when there's space in my flowering shed. My sativa dom's go into flowering when shorter, indica doms get a tad more growth before the switch. Somewhere between 16 to 24 inches, depending on strain. By then you should be seeing the pre-flowers regardless of strain. :thumbsup:

A lot also depends on headroom in your flowering room, too. If headroom is limited, flowering a tad early may help by slight stunting. But if you put 'em on 12/12 too soon, they'll take a week or two longer to switch themselves to the flowering stage.

Chronological age isn't always a good indicator of being ready. Especially if using CFL's or fluoro tubes during the growth stage.

I have limited height for my light and have a limit on pot size (8 inch pots).
...so these puppies when into flower today...about 3 weeks veg on two of them and 4 weeks veg on the other two.....including the runt..:jointsmile:

the two in the back row are the same age (3 weeks)...:wtf:...go figure?...same WW parents, all of them.

I agree. The trick is to move the plants to flower when they reach the desired height and maturity. Some strains can double or even triple in height during the first 2-3 weeks of flowering, so keep that in mind according to your grow-space and light intensity/placement. A lot of growers will also tell you to make sure the plants are showing preflowers before you move them into 12/12 as well - flowering before that time will increase your chances of hermied or male flowers.

If growing from clones they can be put into flower as soon as they are rooted or they may be veged for whatever time you like. That depends on your grow space, strain, and method of growing.
If growing from seed I never flower until the plants are in the preflower stage of growth. I like to take clones from some of my seed grown plants and I have to wait until the plant starts to produce big enough clone sights before I put them into flower.

Anyone else ever notice that when you are out of weed things get pushed to flower quicker? Maybe that's just me

Im at about 1ft now and i think ill go to about 1 1/2 due to heaving a heavy indica strain (blue rhino).

For me space isnt the issue its more the light

just doing some research to try and learn some instead of just asking questions. whats this about plants showing pre flowers now i did a little growing in the past 2 crops. and i never noticed pre flowers before are they easy to spot when looking for them ???

i guess im asking is what to look for. i remember when i put my lights 12/12 and saw the plant start to flower is it the same thing

and thx to this thread i realize i let my plants grow to high before flowering 4' (white widow)

ps i realize i asked a question but was doing some research reading post allready made
