LIMA, Ohio â?? The insurance carrier for the City of Lima has agreed to pay $2.5 million to the family of a woman who was shot and killed by a city police sergeant in January, 2008. City Law Director Tony Geiger said Thursday afternoon that the company and the family of Tarika Wilson agreed to settle the lawsuit that is pending in U.S. District Court in Toledo. Wilson, 26, a biracial woman, was shot to death by Sgt. Joseph Chavalia, who is white, during a drug raid at her south side home. Wilson's 1-year-old son, Sincere, was injured in the gunfire. The incident led to allegations by some in the African-American community in Lima who charged that the city's mostly white police department targeted blacks. [align=center]

According to Mr. Geiger, the settlement has not yet been approved in District Court. He said that the city's insurance company has the legal authority to settle the case without the city's consent. Mr. Geiger added that the settlement does not include admission of liability from the city or Sergeant Chavalia.RedLocks Reviewed by RedLocks on . $2.5 million to family of woman killed by police To Protect and serve right? article published December 31, 2009 Lima to pay $2.5 million to family of woman killed by police http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=TO&Date=20091231&Category=NEWS16&ArtNo=912319972&Ref=AR&MaxW=200 A family picture of Tarika Wilson and her son, Sincere. Atleast its something. If I was sitting on a jury on the civil case I would give the family a couple hundred million.

2.5 million is the price they put on a mothers life that was unarmed. I bet the baby would rather have his mother.

In an honest world, the cop would be dismissed and not allowed to ever be a police officer again. No weapon. Must have been afraid of his own shadow. I don't condone cop killing just as I don't condone cops killing innocent, unarmed civilians. That goes for tasing to death too. Kill without clear legal justification and lose your badge and right to possess a firearm just like a regular felon. You don't deserve to wear either one. :wtf:

Sounds a lot like the Ruby Ridge incident where an officer shot a woman in the neck while she was cradling her baby standing in a doorway. The officer should be shot to try and even things out a little.
