I just wanted to say that I cannot stress the importance in starting bagseed, or just any random seeds you find in your bud...The whole "Breeding towards hermaphroditism" argument is way overblown....If you look around the world, most of the amazing clone only strains that we have were started out of random bagseed, or by a grower out of seeds found in his/her garden....Sometimes you know both parents, sometimes you don't even know one of them. I just wanted to say this, based on my most recent experimentation, and on my early growing history.
When I first started growing, I ONLY had bagseed to start with, and found some of the most exotic, and incrediblly potent cannabis I have ever seen...I had some males and some females, but no hermaphrodites....Of course, starting a strain, and starting a breeding project are two different things....It's one thing to pop bagseeds, hoping to have a killer strain, but it's another to then use that strain in future breeding projects.
Either way, I personally think the whole idea that starting bagseed is a waste of time or that you are gonna end up with all hermies is a bullshit idea started by the seed companies and the publications in which they advertise.
The extremely wide variety of DNA that you find in a a seed found in a bud is very vast....Currently, with the Cough-Banner, I am dealing with NL#5, Haze, OG Kush, Sour D, and Strawverry Cough....The possibilities are endless, and like I said, the #3 has almost ZERO Sativa traits, and most people wouldn't even believe me if I told them it came from a Cough seed. The other two look almost NOTHING like #3.
Seedbank seed is great, don't get me wrong. You can find exactly what you are looking for and get a pretty good idea of what you are going to get....Of course, some strains are more stabalized than others, but you still have a pretty good idea. However, when dealing with a F1 cross, you really never have any clue what you are going to get, and it's so much more fun and exciting to go down there everyday looking for new smells or other traits in a new strain.
I have been doing this for over 12 years, and everytime I start bagseed, or accidentally-made seeds from my garden, I am reminded of how important it is to do so....and again, I have never gotten a single hermaphrodite in doing this.
And yeah, the #3 is just about ready, but after what is kept for headsmoke, there will only be a small amount left to give out.. I will make sure that at least some crosses paths with Delta9.

^Nice! That is interesting! I've kept bagseed for the last 5 years of nothing but the finest stuff. Usually I'd find just a few seeds in an ounce (when they were there at all, but it was a rarity). But I have about 30 bag seeds saved up representing probably ~20 different strains. All of them from some of the best weed I've ever smoked.
I hope sometime I get the time/space to take a gamble on these!Brown-eyed women and red grenadine...

Honestly, I wouldnt reccomend growing bagseed. Specially if your whole grow is set up towards the growth of bagseed, thats like taking your whole paycheck and buying lotto tickets instead of paying the rent.
The majority of seeds found in cannabis are normally from stress and are self pollinated, or another plant has hermaphrodite tendecys and has created a few nanners and those nanneres polinated the plants around it.
Then again, sometimes growers keep a few males around and pollen just happends to wonder on a bud or two and you will get some quality seeds.
But having grown so many packs of seeds from so many breeders and selected through hundreds of varieties at a time, I would rather work with breeder stock over random bagseed ANY day.
I have 25 strains in my motherroom right now, and not a single one of them are bagseed genetics...
I am anxiously waiting to see what this Bruce Banner looks like, I keep hearing alot about it, but have yet to see/smoke it....Colorado Care Facility 5130 E. Colfax Ave. Denver, CO

I dunno....Based on the smoke, the yield, the taste, the aroma, and the exoticness (if that's a word), I feel like I have had just as good or better success with bagseed as I have with the dutch genetics that anyone can get......You start bagseed and you're gonna have something that nobody else has access to, and then spread it around and make everyone happy.
Again, most of the great clone-only strains in our scene were started out of bagseed.....Yes , it's a risk, but with risk comes reward......Or you can just grow the same dutch bullshit that everyone else is growing....Personally I think the Cough x Banner that I posted 2 posts ago is amazing cannabis....Plus, the plant yielded 10 ounces, with 3 other plants under the same 1000w. (The 3 other plants of Sage yielded 12 oz. each)
The Sage may be a dutch strain, but all her genetics are North American.
Either way, together, they yield 1.288 gpw and I am pretty happy with that.

if you can't see any hermie characteristics in the bagweed, then pop the bean. Mystery plants are FUN.. and who knows it may just be the next Chemdog or Bruce Banner or Coup de Grace. Keep the gene pool churning folks cause I'm starting to see the same buds at shop after shop.
