Well it's Friday, and you know what that means. Picture day!
PhatJay, thanks man! Think you'll ever switch to regular soil or hydro? I'm not sure if I wanna do coco, go all out for hydro, or stay in soil for my next grow.
TehNooblet, I don't know wtf you're talking about. Your plants look awesome!
Busy night tonight so the girls didn't get much attention. I woke up hung over... not fun. It'll probably be a good 3 months before I forget how little fun being hung over is, and drink too much.
Oh, and I had the order wrong yesterday... the plants were in order of Camara/Watson/Scarlet. I switch them around daily.
I think it's too small for even the camera to capture, but the very tips of a few leaves are showing some brownness. I would guess it's nute burn. For a couple days the tips were just a lighter green, but now it's a tiny brown spot. For the next watering, it's gunna be just water. Tomorrow is transplant day. That should be fun. I might try to take a clone off of each one if I get ambitious.
Camara/Watson/Scarlet tonight...

They are looking a little over watered. They look healthy though and they will perk up when you transplant.
Dude, I wish I would have left my ladies all short and bushy like that. That is why I say your ladies look amazing!

I'm looking at a leaf pattern on 6 of my plants here...they are almost identical to yours. Guess it's time to take some pics and compare.

Hrmm, yes I agree that that look overwatered, but I'm not sure if that's the case, as I had actually watered 2 days earlier, and the soil felt pretty dry and airy. See my transplanting pics below. I wonder if it takes a couple days to show the signs of overwater, or if it's just because they are rootbound and unhappy.

Well it's Saturday, and you know what that means. Picture day! ...AND transplant day!!!:dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:
Notes:
I didn't pH the water. In fact I just got it straight out of the tap for the transplant. I didn't leave it standing 24 hours, I didn't boil it, nothin. Will this stress the plants? Possibly. Will it kill em? Nah! I kinda want to see what I can put them through.
I took some pictures so that I can follow the process (or make improvements) on my next grow, and you guys can see what I did.
Instructions:
- Fill the 3 gallon pot with enough dirt so that when I put in the 1 gallon pot, it sits even, or slightly above the surface of the 3 gallon pot.
- Then I fill the area between the 3 gal pot and the 1 gal pot with dirt.
- Next, I pack the dirt down well, water the dirt, then pack it down again to get air pockets out.

- Next I remove the plants from their 1 gallon pots by massaging the outside of the pot until the soil loosens a bit.
- I slide my hand in over the top of the pot with the stem going between my fingers, and push on the bottom-center of the pot with my other hand. This loosens the dirt enough to allow the plant to slide out. Here are a couple pics of the rootbound plants. Keep in mind these are only 26-27 days old. I started this log before the plants sprouted.

- The hard part is pretty much done now. I take the 1 gallon pot out of the water-soaked dirt within the 3 gallon pot, and put the plant right into the same spot. The soil has sunken in a bit due to air spots being filled and me packing the soil a bit, but that's ok.

- Finally, I add some soil around the plant to bring the soil level even with the top of the pot. A bit of watering/dirt packing happens here as well.
- Here they are in their new homes. I had to raise the light a bit to keep from crushing the pepper, so I stuck a ream of paper under each pot to raise the girls to the light.
Camara/Watson/Scarlet

I expect that they'll look overwatered and stressed for the next couple of days, but after that they should perk right up!

They look good! I can't wait to see them in flowering! Are you planning on leaving them in the 3-gal or are you going to go up to a 5-gal? One more question. How long are you going to leave them in veg? Sexual maturity, specific height, whenever you think you want to, etc..?

My original plan was to leave them in 3 gallon pots, but I'm a little worried about that. These guys became rootbound pretty fast in the plastic cups and the 1 gallon pots, so I figure they'll do the same in the 3 gallon.
So, the decision becomes...
A. Leave them in 3 gallon pots, and switch them to flower soon.
B. Switch them to 5 gallon pots in a couple weeks, and flower a few days after that.
Decision A leaves probably leaves me with a smaller overall yeild, however the plants will be easier to move around because they're lighter, the soil will dry out faster between waterings, trimming may be easier, and besides tucking the plants under the screen when it goes in there, I can be pretty lazy about maintenance.
Decision B gives me a possibly bigger yield, less possibility of nute burn/deficiencies due to having more soil to spread the nutes over, and the "oooooh, ahhhhh" at harvest because of bigger plants.
I think I'm going to go with A, because I want to spend my time creating a second grow area for the clones, and not hassle with 5 gallon pots. The exact day that I switch them to flower will be determined by when they fill the screen about 40% which should be pretty soon. Installing that is another little project I need to do this weekend.
