Grow Box Setup help needed please

    Hi All,
I am new to the site and am in need of some advice.. ok well alot of advice.

I am looking into starting my own personal little crop. i have a box that i want to use the size is 4 ft tall X 3 ft long X 2.5 ft wide.

What would be the optimal amount of light needed and what size light i.e 250 W HPS.

What would be best for controlling the heat in the box like would i use a standard fan as i have seen a few people doing this on different sites.

How many plants would be best foir this size box as i said this is personal so i was only looking to do 3 or 4 plants.

I am a total noob so pls all help/advice is appreciated.

Also what is best to feed the plants and what do i need to check PH balances.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this for me

your size of grow box is good....first thing i would do is look through the lighting section and see what others have done to get ideas!

how elaborate do want to get and how much money do want to spend?

LED lights...HPS...CFL....all are good...research and go with what your budget allows.

get acquainted with some grow shops and ask them questions also...they will help with advice and costs associated with your plans

The grow box size you described is identical to the one I used for my first grow. For lighting I started out with a 24" x2 flourescents w/F20/T12's that I got from Lowe's. I kept the light about one inch from the top of the plants using adjustable chains mounted on the top of the cab. I used a small fan and had it all connected to a timer. I sealed it so that during the dark part of the light cycle, absolutly no light penetrated the cab.
My first grow was some haze seeds and I found that after I started the flowering cycle they were getting too tall so I had to do some Light Stress Training.
The harvest was not real abundant...but I learned alot on that first grow.

I am now in the middle of my second grow using the same cabinet only now Im using the same 24" lights with an addtional 48"x2 standing streight up on its side plus 4 100watt cfl singles.
And since the cab is somewhat on the short side I decided to go with some Lowrider autoflowering AK47's this time around..So far my plants are 1.5 months old and doing good, & flowering like crazy considering that my light source is kinda meager compared to other growers here on this site.
Good luck to you on your first grow!

I'd do a cooltube setup for lighting, 250w or 400w MH then 400w HPS for flowering. Reason is you don't have much height, so that way you can keep the light less than a foot away from the plants.

You will need at least a 200cfm fan, probably closer to 300.

3 or 4 plants sounds like a good number for that size box.

400watt would be nice for that size box. Start looking up some info on LST and other useful ways to keep you plants shorter. The sticky's are amazing:hippy:
