Congress has never passed a tax hike it didn't like.
Once they get there foot in the door they just kick it open. Which is why us 2nd Amendment believer fight so hard to keep our rights. Once they start limiting it isn't long before they ban.

Funny how the Republicans can spew all kinds of rhetoric about low taxes (so the deep southerners will elect them), while waging a trillion-dollar war, create a MASSIVE debt because of their low-tax/high-spending stance, and then blame their successor for the mess.

Note: nobody should think from the above that I'm in any way denying how full of shit Obama is. He may well be one of the smoothest snakes the political scene has seen in awhile, but at least he at least pretends to care about people who make under a hundred grand a year--his rhetoric, as fucked-up as it is, at least creates an atmosphere of caring about the littler guy, instead of rhetoric about how the whole country prospers the more Nike sells.

Scandinavian countries have much higher taxes than in North America and they run much smoother...maybe that's the price. The ideals of Jefferson aren't really viable nowadays (some of them). They should be, but too much damage has been done.
