    New to site, have questions.

Not sure if im posting this in the right section, but im new at growing marijuana. I am only planning on growing one plant, in my closet. Would a 200W HPS be enough for one plant to grow? Because I can find them for about 10 or 20 bucks. Im using miracle-gro potting mix or something close to that. Like I said im just doing this as a one time thing, to experience growing it, and be proud when I can smoke it. I have to quit smoking around when summer ends, so I just want to try it. Thanks.

    Welcome to the site

Even though you can get the light for cheap, you'll still need to invest in: seedling soil, perlite, different sized pots, ventilation, odor control, nutrients, ph pen, ph up/down, calibrating solution, etc.. It's amazing how the costs of growing seem to always add up, and it seems like there is always something else you should buy.

With that said, a 200w hps should be fine for one plant. You really want to aim for 5,000 lumens or more per square foot of growing space.

Miracle Grow soil is OK, as long as it's not the time-released fertilizers or moisture control soils. You will, however, probably need some other nutrients because the nutrients in MG will run out in about 3-4 weeks. Also mix the soil with 25-30% perlite. You will need a seedling soil to start with, as MG can kill a new plant because of all the nutrients.

Check out the growing section in the forums. The stickies at the tops of the sections have all the info you will ever need. Do some serious reading here in the next week or two so you know what you're getting yourself into

I have miracle gro sphangum peat moss, I just picked it up from walmart. If I get miracle gro perlite, that will be good?

It seems easy, and then at the same time you feel like its alot of work. Give it a try either way. Thanks

I'm not too familiar with all the different MG's, just know what I've read around here. Not sure about the one you have, but even the MG perlite could use some more perlite.

Sure man, go for it. What are you gonna do with all the leftover stuff? Hopefully you can donate it to someone who can use it all after you

By MG perlite, you mean the bag of straight up perlite, not the MG potting mix with perlite added, right? Obviously a bag of pure perlite would not need more perlite, ha. Sorry Bigtops, us newbies love us our MG  I used MG perlite on my grow (25-30%) and I've had pretty good results.

I would like to add though that I'm never using MG again haha. It'll be Fox Farm trio for me next time.

I'm curious as to why you're choosing peat... from what I've read Its tougher to deal with. I would just go with soil, personally.

I'm also VERY curious as to where you can get a 200w HPS for 20 BUCKS??? Normally the bulbs alone cost that much...

I was assuming Travis18 meant MG with perlite in it already, if he gets that, then it still needs more perlite. Didn't know MG had their own branded perlite. :what:

Oh I know what you meant, I just thought Id clear it up haha. I didn't know they had their own perlite either until I picked up a bag for my current grow.

And you're absolutely right, Not a single type of MG soil has enough perlite right out of the bag. they add about 5-10% perlite to their soil. I'd imagine that is better for tulips and daisies and crap that I can't smoke

I hope you aren't thinking that you can screw an HPS light of any wattage into a regular type socket, you will most certainly need a ballast from my understanding.

Be very certain of what you are attempting to do, think out your security details; can anyone find this, smell it, etc... and whatever you do don't go and tell anyone about it.

The 3 most prevalent ways for an indoor pot grower to be busted are; visual -people see what your doing and whats going on, the smell of a plant(s) to unfriendlies (neighbors, landlords, service people) giving it away, and word of mouth (either you or so called friends talk about it to the wrong people). Never tell anyone who does not have a vested interest in this project about what you are doing. Keep it on a need to know basis.

Finally, ask yourself; Depending upon where you are located, are you honestly prepared to possibly go to prison for doing this? Some states/counties aren't going to pay too much attention depending upon laws, most others are going to hammer your balls to the wall for just growing one plant. Bear in mind there are people right now serving probation to people serving life sentences and everything inbetween just for growing pot.

Growing God's Gift is relatively easy, its the human factor involved that almost always fucks it up....
