Would find out your tapwater ph at the very least. Freshwater aquarium test kits work great and are cheap. You'll want ingoing water to be between 6.3 (very lowest) to 6.9ish.
Bottled water isn't necessarily better for your plants and it's ph isn't buffered, usually. A ph test kit, and an aquarium TDS test would help determine that. Could be cheaper in the long run to find out more about your tapwater.
This is great advise. I found this out when i bought a test kit and my tap water was 7.2 so i bought some distilled water and mix it 50-50. The ph ends up @ 6.5.
The test kits are cheap and relatively accurate.
Try watering only when the soil is dry to the touch 2 inches down with your finger.
I water every other day when i get off work.
