You need drainage in your soil. perlite, vermiculite, small 'aquarium' stones, or sand will all work. perlite is my favorite. The lack of these is probably causing your plants to show signs of over watering.
What has a Ph of 5.9? The Ph of your soil should be about 6.5, and the ph of your water around 7... sometimes using cheap generic plant food (anything not designed specifically for weed) can drop the ph of your source water so be sure to test your nute solution and keep it in the 6.3-7.0 range.
hope this helps you out

How big are your pots?
Let them get dry. I like having a 1 inch hole in the side down at the bottom to stick my finger in and see how damp it is. If they don't get oxygen to the roots the roots will rot or die.
I didn't have much luck with the Canna line of nutrients.

There's a link to the troubleshooting form in my signature. Copy-n-paste the post containing the correct form (soil grows) into your next post. Answer all the questions as best you can. The more info you provide, the more accurate the diagnosis will be, and the pictures help bunches.
