Merry Prankstr's "A Tale of Four Chemdogs"
I had been promised some Reservoir Seeds Chemdog IBL, but due to problems the project completion was delayed until at least May 2010. I was able to get 10 Pre-IBL stage seeds Chemdog IX-III, four of which are the subject of this grow log. Chemdog has always been a favorite strain of mine. It may not be the world's best potency or taste, or anything like that. I just consider it like comfort food, ya know what I mean.
This grow is not about cutting edge technology or superior techniques but about friends and our relationship with our favorite plant.
Being a backwards farmer in may ways I referred to the Old Farmers Almanac for best germination period. I have no scientific proof that this is any better. They were popped into water on Jan 27 and transferred to 3 1/12" square planters filled 2/3 with pre-treated coco 24 hours later (tap roots 1/2 " long) and placed 24" away from my LED lamp.
Hopefully this grow will be a place to sit and shoot the bull while passing time watching them grow. I'll be glad to receive any questions comments or criticisms, but mainly just trying to have a friendly grow.
Pictures to follow shortly.

Merry Prankstr's "A Tale of Four Chemdogs"
Weeze (et al) This expanation may take a bit, please allow me to copy and paste from a commonly quoted article:
History of the Chemdawg Family
At a 1989 Grateful Dead show at Deer Creek Amphitheatre, 'joebrand' (aka 'wonkanobe') and 'pbud' met 'chemdog' and sold him an ounce of very high quality pot for $500. joe and chemdog exchanged numbers and they later arranged for two ounces to be shipped to chemdog on the east coast. According to chemdog, one ounce was seedless and the other had 13 seeds.
In â??91, chemdog popped the first 4 seeds. From these seeds, one male was found and disposed of (chemdog was young, you canâ??t blame him). The 3 females were labeled â??chemdawgâ?? (now â??91 chemdawg), â??chemdawg aâ?? (now chemdawgâ??s sister), and â??chemdawg bâ??. In '01, chemdog and his girlfriend attempted to germ 3 more seeds, labeled â??câ??, â??dâ??, and â??eâ??. the â??eâ?? seed never germinated, â??câ?? turned out to be junk (according to chemdog), and chemdawg â??dâ?? was the keeper. In '06, 'chemdog' and 'joebrand' reunited and joe was given 4 of the last 6 beans: Chemdawg phenos 1-4, '4' being the chosen keeper. Joe thought the '4' was the best representation of the original and thus dubbed it the 'reunion pheno'. Chemdog still has two seeds left in his stash.
Chemdawg Crosses:
â?¢ 'OG Kush' (the original cut) came from an s1 from in a bag of '91 Chemdawg in the Lake Tahoe area in 1996.
â?¢ 'Sour Diesel' aka ECSD came from an accidental cross of ('91 Chemdawg x Mass Super Skunk/NL)x DNL after the DNL hermed and seeded the room. The DNL's lineage is NL/Shiva x Hawaiian.
â?¢ Original Diesel' (also known as Diesel #1, Headband, Daywrecker Diesel, Underdawg) came from a cross of '91 Chemdawg x (Mass Super Skunk x Sensi's Northern Lights) done by a guy known as â??weaselâ??.
â?¢ 'chemdog' and friends made several crosses that are held closely by a small group of friends and acquaintances. Among them are:
1. Super Snowdawg (Bubble Chem x [Super skunk x Oregon Sno])
2. Giesel (Chem D x Mass Super Skunk)
3. Bubble Chem (Chemdawgâ??s Sister x Sag's Bubbleberry)
4. Dawg Daze aka ChemHaze (Chem D x â??93 Sensi's NL#5/Haze)
5. Chemdawg D x Pbud (another old-school Colorado strain)
Rezdog of Reservoir Seeds recently released several Chemdawg crosses as part of his 'Trinity' charity auctions. The crosses included Chemdawg D x Sensi's Hindu Kush and Snowdawg x Sensi's Hindu Kush, Chemdawg D x Sour Diesel IBL, Snowdawg x Sour Diesel IBL, ChemHaze x Sour Diesel IBL and Giesel x Sour Diesel IBL.
I was actually able to get my hands on a fair quantity (50 each)of his seeds. Rez produces seeds that actually are decendants of Chemdog and The original keeper of the strain has repeated verified the origins of Rez,s genetics and has given him his blessing to work the strain, unlike Arjan from GreenHouse seeds. It is in fact the real deal, "bottled in bond" genetics. Arjaqn's straion is from an "apothicary" cut which cannot be verified to actually originate from Chemdog's original seed stock.
The best part that Rez is very helpful (although sometimes rude) and is very open source regarding phenotypes, care and feeding schedules, etc. If you are interested in more info he has a presence at ICMag.

BTW I'm cutting these posts into smaller bits so the server doesn't hiccup and I lose all my typing....
I harvested the Lauging Buddha on Wednsday and it's presently drying, but I was dissatisfied with it for a few reasons. It looks like the harvest will be about 3 quart jars of dried buds.
1) Despite it's taunted Thai genetic background it neither looks smells or tastes like any Thai I ever had before. The leaves were wide and not at all Sativa looking.
2) It took over 120 days to flower. I could have put two cycles of a more usual Indica strain. If it actually was Thai I would have been happy, but this stuff tastes and smells just like your usual cut of weed. I will wait for it to cure before final judgement, but I'll be suprised if it turns out like what we remembered.
I have been generally dissatisfied with Barney's farm in general. The strains don't resemble any know phenos of what they are supposed to represent in terms of growth, shape, etc. They will definitely smoke so I'm keeping the product, but gave the rest of that seeds stock (both Laughing Buddha and G-13xHaze) to a friend who has been just growing bagseed. He will be happy enough with it.
The Reserva Privada Kandy Kush is itself a cross of Chemdog and Arcata Train Wreck. It actually turned out pretty good and fed my interest in the Chemdog strain itself. I kept the remainder of these seeds.

i was lucky enough to be given the OG SFV form one of the "players" in the Trinity area...i have forgotten most of the details in its complete origin :stoned: but those are some correct facts above...the complete genetics of OG is chemdawg mother x (Lemon Thai female x Old World Kush male) made the daddy that bred to the chemdawg mother in 1996 and the seeds produced the original OG cuts

You, sir, are a mentor of the first water.
Mahalo nui fo' wisin' me up!
I have always wondered 'bout the odd names.
You saved me hours of sifting through da beach cat barf.
(Had too many less important things to look up, yah?)
Lookin' at the sprouts, noticing' the internode distance, I'm moved to ask.
Is that much stretch strain related, or might they benefit from more blue, or just more light?
An' I guess 'Shake didn't see me glom yer lighter.
Sorry, I no steal.
It's a sticky finger kine Gecko t'ing
Here, have a couple of mine.
I seem to have a pocket full.
Warm Aloha
Wee 'zard
