But read up in the lighting section because I don't know much about CFLs... they may run a little hotter than regular fluorescents. But honestly I think fluorescents is a waste of time. Yes, there is a point of diminishing returns and there can always be significant overkill. (400w MH for 4 seedlings, as an example...)

I've been growing for many years, and have run the growth stages under CFL's, fluoro tubes, MH and HPS. I always go back to CFL's because they work great, and are cheaper to operate. The more CFL's the merrier. But at some point, heat and ventilation will become an issue, as will keeping the plants hydrated.
