Hello wee!

Lets see if my old-self can be of some assistance

Yeah... it might work.
My suggestion, don't do it over the exhaust fan.

I would suggest you build your own (or buy one), and have a separate, dedicated fan pulling/pushing air through it.

It is ideal, yet NOT necessary to have this carbon filter "in line" with your air circulation.

Explaining my self: If you have your grow room with x number of fans, just place the carbon air filter in the same room.
It'll filter the air... I know you're thinking that if the fan isn't "in line", air that is "smelly" will escape.
Well, yeah... but if you have your filter in the room, running 24/7... it'll just filter out those smells.
Just try it out!
(( IMHO, build one! And use a 'fart fan' to pull/push the air ))

It'll be adequate enough... my 0.02

Would this work adequately, and would this need its own carbon filter to eliminate smell permeation.

I suggest you use "passive intake", which is saying that you only have an "exhaust" fan.
The exhaust fan will take your old air out, and pull new air in.

Your proposed fan setup could be enough... only trial and error will tell.
If your computer fan is not enough (as I suspect), I suggest buying a "fart fan" and placing that one as exhaust.
They relatively cheap (<$40).

Hope this helps!!
I'll check later this thread to see if any more questions come up
