    Effects of smoking

Hey guys, I was just curious about something. Do you think its a bad thing to smoke when you are going to college? Like for example.. say you are taking hard classes and you enjoy smoking herb when you are relaxing and have all of your work done that you needed to get done. Do you think its ok to enjoy a scrumptious bowl and relax? Or will doing that make you forget (or not help you remember) all of the studying you had done beforehand?

I have a lot of friends who smoked weed all through highschool and they all got A's and B's. I know that it effects people in different ways, but I was just trying to get a general idea of what you guys and gals thought about it.

Thanks for reading and thanks for any responses

...now I'm gonna go enjoy me some :rastasmoke:

Since the short-term memory loss doesn't last long after a high wears off, getting high hours before class or any time after class and study is done shouldn't be a problem. Smoking right before class is another matter. I quickly learned that if I was going to toke before class, I may as well cut it for all the good it would do me. Some folks say that toking up helps them study. I can say it didn't help me with academics. I'd just space out on something more interesting usually. Now reflecting on what I'd already learned while high produced some insights I may have missed otherwise. I also found it very helpful with my art assignments.

I seemed to be much more proficient at taking tests and studying while stoned...I guess the will to outsmart others while reeking of sweet stinky pot outweighed the negative effects? or there aren't any? who knows, but I smoked every day and did better in school once I started doing it before classes

Bro I'm with you. I like to get stoned before every class, and make sure I take notes. I'm taking a few philosophy classes and an english class right now, all great classes to bring a different point of view to. And actually last week in my english class, the dude beside me started talking about weed, and I mentioned I was high. Now we puff down before class. Mary Jane..

I'll leave the calculus to the genius kids.

    Effects of smoking

I have an anxiety/panic disorder that becomes overwhelming in a classroom setting, so for me, smoking before class was simply my way to get through it. While completely sober in crowded/cramped social settings, I get irritable, which turns into nervousness, which sprials into a cloud of irrational fear. While stoned I can 'breathe'. The room feels bigger, I don't feel as pressured, and I can pinpoint my focus.

So MJ is sorta my ticket to success in school. But I suppose it all depends on how you react. I'm really excited to get out of this state and get my card...

Everyone's personality is different; not only when it comes to smoking weed, but academics, too. Putting the two together can either be wonderful, neutral, or a complete disaster.

I've been smoking for about six years now, and I've only gone to class high a handful of times, normally in biology classes in which I do well, and enjoy. I'm fortunate enough to be one of those who rarely get red eyes, and my personality (a bit eccentric) is generally the same either way. With biological concepts, I can absorb the information the same sober and stoned, but stoned it seems more enjoyable.

Math, however, is not as fortunate. If I am any bit of stoned, I cannot process the numbers at all. I have great difficulty with math to begin with.

With subjects you excel in, if you seem to be doing fine while high, then that's great! But if you have to tackle a difficult concept, instead of getting stoned to make it seem more bearable, stay sober, study/go to class, and then as a reward for your hard work, smoke up afterward!

    Best of luck this semester!

When I'm high, I have a hard time making my mind keep track of numbers too. (if it's really good sticky, I have a hard time making my mind keep track of much of anything, heh) However, Geometry was a blast. It is much easier for me to envision lines, planes, and points in space when high. I really seemed to "get" all the axioms and the whole thing was like a game to me. Ended up with a 99 percent grade for one semester in HS and I don't think I ever studied Geometry while straight. It's kind of amusing to me because my teacher was the definition of straight.

I never had much problem with math and cannabis..actually to be honest I first understood algebra way late, and by a 'tudor' lady the technology center hired that was one of the best math teacher by far I'd ever had...I got stoned, went in there and she had the patience to explain it in a variety of different concepts so that I would eventuallly understand it...

How true! I had classmates that couldn't concentrate at all with the studies when they were high while myself, I did great!! Graduated with a second degree last May with a 4.0 GPA and I was also the only one in my program that passed all phases of the certifications.

One thing though, I DID NOT smoke before school. For me, it just makes it easier dealing with all the straight people and these days, you can't be to safe. All it takes is one inbred redneck to fuck up your academic career.

    Have a good one!
