It all depends on your plant. It could double in height, if it's a crazy weedy sativa maybe more. If it's 6 feet now I would guess that it's heavily sativa. Get some tomato cage and start training them down now or make a chop before you flower.
Think of your buds like chocolate chip cookies: some people like em crunchy and some people like em chewy. Personally, I want them tanned golden brown but not crispy....and no one likes cold raw dough in the middle of their cookie.

You have plenty of room with 9 ft. ceilings for a 6 ft. plant going into flower.

It depends on the plant genetics. White Widow would have to be tied over, White Rhino same thing...any sativa strong will usually double in height in early flowering. If it is an indica, you might be okay, what about room for the light fixture?

If you trim it back it will make more shoots and more buds but keep the height under control. There is discussion about whether this method reduces crop, I think it depends on the plant. Most sativas do will with topping, indicas are a hit and miss.

if your growing indoors vegging to 6ft is bad unless you have the proper lights to do it. all the bottom stuff will get no light and die off.

    Agree!
You wouldn't veg to that height unless you're either mothering the plant for clones or planning to flower with multiple thousands of watts or the sun.
Those sized plants are going to need a hell of a lot more energy in flowering than you're giving them in veg.

I recommend cloning that sized plant like crazy and flowering those clones rather than trying to flower a 6ft plant.

My friend vegged a white russian to roughly 5-6 feet and it hardly grew at all in flower. Think he got 4oz off it.

    Probably very indica dominant.

Topping and fim are techniques for veg, in flower all you will be doing is stressing the plant.

And like a couple of people have mentioned, before you try and veg the plant to the ceiling, consider the lighting you will need to illuminate these extra tall plants. Not much sense in vegging to the point that your lighting can't reach the middle and lower regions of the plants.
