Smoking out of a bowl

Hey guys, would anyone mind telling me the best way to pack a bowl? I notice some people do it differently and was wondering whats the most efficient. Also is it that much better to have a grinder?

I think weed burns and tastes best when it's ground, not to a powder but calyx sized pieces, a little smaller than a pepper grain. Grinder is better because you won't be getting the oil from your fingers on the buds and you won't get the THC from the bud on your fingers.

Before and after grinding I try to take out as much stem material as possible. You can save up the stems and make hash or brownies or whatever concentrate you want, you'll just need a lot of it before it's worth it.

Personally when smoking from a bowl, I try to never put the direct flame on the weed itself. Instead I keep it hovered above and inhale, and this will vaporize the weed slower than straight torching it. It will also give you more smoke from one bowl.

I watched a documentary on growing pot and a woman was interviewing someone in Canada that had an enormous grow op. When he showed her the plants that were almost ready to harvest, he had her grab a bud in her hands to feel how sticky it was. LOL . . . about 5 or 10 minutes later in the interview the woman was wandering around saying, "these plants are beautiful." She was "in the zone." :stoned:

haha, in the zone is right! My wife helped me trim my harvest last time. She doesn't smoke, I told her to use gloves but she said she didn't need them, after about an hour she was WASTED :stoned:

That's funny! Bet she'll wear gloves next time . . . or did she like it? :thumbsup:

My cousins once had a guerrilla grow that they harvested without gloves. They got so wasted they had to sit in their van and wait about 3 hours before they could drive out.

oh haha no problem!! I think my method of the size of the green that I'm putting into my bowl is the problem. I usually just grab a nug and break it up into the size of... hmm.. I guess a little smaller than popcorn (before its actually popcorn, the little brown seeds or whatever.) and get a few good hits out of it.

Whats the best way to pack it in the bottom? I've had people tell me to use stems so nothing goes through but I wasnt sure if that was right lol.

alright, here is my personal way of doing it, if your not using screens, you take your nug and break off a tiny bit, bigger than the hole, but only slightly, then you start grinding your weed, after breaking it up by hand, or grinder, i use a grinder, you are left with an assortment of different sized peices and flakes/leaves. i typically will heap it into a pile, stirring a few times, this helps the big pieces to the top, and the shake to the bottom, i then pack the bowl using the pile, piling it from big pieces to little bits of shake, and if its on a surface, ill slide the shake to the top of the bowl, or if its in my grinder ill tip the grider out gently. I will then get a non-stick surface, like the end of a pen, or the cap to eyedrops and softly pack the bowl down, i dont give it a lot of force, but more of a gentle pressure to make sure the weed has settled evenly. then i light, gingerly, most of the time the kieffy bit is just trichs so you dont want to burn them.

I use small scissors and hold the bud's by the stems. I use scissors because of the less surface area that is in contact with the buds, meaning less tricomes being broken and less THC being placed elsewhere than my bloodstream.

The problem with stems in the bottom is if you take a big rip at the end of the bowl, the stem will burn up, crumble, and send all the loose ash sitting on top of it flying into your mouth (Idk if its a popular term, but around here we call it a scoobying/scooby/scooby snack). It also possible to train yourself to hit slowly at the end of the bowl to prevent scoobies. Bigtop's method of "vaporizing" the weed with the lighter works REALLY well also.

I personally would go with a glass screen, available at ANY headshop for about a dollar.

Btw, we like to call the little brown popcorn seeds "kernels". :thumbsup:
