You can split the 220 but what you have there is two hot wires and a ground. Your missing a neutral wire. Yes a neutral is the same as ground. That being said, one hot wire to each plug and split the ground to go to each plug. I would hook the ground to the neutral and ground on each plug..

To make it easier wire nut some 12/2 to the 10/2 wire in the box. If you use a double rec. Then you can split it top and bottom by just braking off the tabs on the sides to seperate them.
