I never trim roots on a young clone. Ever. I try really hard not to bend, fold, spindle or mutilate 'em.
Unless you have a specific goal in mind, you don't want to stress them into doing something drastic. Stuff like stunting, dying...

Thanks, I'll go that route as best I can. There will certainly be some bending, folding, and mutilating involved. (dunno about the spindling)
I'll hack one of 'em, and name it Gimpy, to see how badly she fares.
