I've done an entire grow with LED's. They are great, but of course only if you use the right kind. Weezard and Dreaded Hermie know where it's at. You really do have to build your own using 15W LedEngin emitters. It's quite costly to do it right, but if you build a light for around $400 it will produce plants that will grow in a 2'x2' area that are as productive as outdoor grown plants.
For any non-believers take a look at Weezard's album. He has a side by side comparison of his LED grown plant vs. his Hawaii sunshine grown plant. Proof is in the pudding. I'm not concerned with electricity costs, so I went back to HID until the price of the good LED's comes down.

building your own is a pain in the ass and time consuming!
my lights cost me $480 each for the full spectrum and $460 for the 80%red 20%blue
i get a little over 460 gram per 16 plants grown in 2gal pots in 3 X 3 tray under 450 watts of LED's
i grow OG SFV and get these yields!!
anyone interested in these lights i can hook you UP! :rasta:

I have a question. Do "full spectrum" LED light fixtures appear like a metal halide? Meaning like daylight? I say this because I would like to get a couple of these for everyday lighting. Maybe over a desk or in the kitchen the type and brightness of light you get from a HPS light would be great except for the noise, heat and trouble. LED's could be nice like that. Anyone know what would be the right ratio of red, white, blue, orange etc bulbs? I already know the grow type LED's light looks like sunrise on Mercury, ha.

Working on building one also. Cost $380 for materials. Using Golden Dragon Plus top bins and TONS of heatsink (150cm2/watt).
Someone earlier mentioned going back to HID to save $$. This may be true for short term cost, but the long term cost of replacinghortilux bulbs would be greater than the cost of a proper LED. According to Philips, an LED cooled to 55C (junction 68C) will maintain 90% of its initial brightness for just over 40,000 hours. That is about 10 years of 12/12 use. I doubt most people are replacing the Hortilux bulbs after only 10% lumen depreciation. Some say that the human eye can barely discern 30% depreciation.
So when you consider the electricity savings and the bulb replacement cost of Hortilux or Son Agro bulbs, LED comes out on top even with todays prices for top bins.
Here's to hoping for the best! (>1 gr/watt)

hey str8outtaweed i was wondering if you could tell me where to get the led lights you were talking about. Im kind of working with a small space so i was thinking of going with mostly red led instead of blue because i dont want a huge plant. my goal is a smaller plant but high quality yield just looking for your input, thank you
