LED'S are the way to go....just get good ones...they will pay for themselves in the long over any other types of lights! 660nm on the red is important for the finishing times. many LED's only use 630nm for the red! :rasta:

I am (allegedly, but everything here is to be taken with a grain of salt) the authorized caregiver for a sufferer of Crohn's Disease (who is prescribed marijuana to be able to feed himself), and I am helping to oversee the construction of his grow as well as teaching him the skills he needs to properly cultivate his medicine. This medicinal patient has opted to pay a little more on his electric bill each month to have his service come entirely from the local wind farm! I am also playing around Rating: 5

Okay, so everything pH related finally got here. I prepped and calibrated my new Hanna Instruments HI 98107 meter, and then made up a batch of fertilizer just like I have been doing. It read at pH 5.1. I adjusted it to pH 7.0 and then fed the AK-47 and Lemon Skunk clones, and read the runoff which was 6.3 from each. Now I just need to make sure I know what all of this means and what I need to do to get everything into the ideal range.

Recap:
Fert was 5.1 before adjusting to 7.0
runoff was 6.3

... now I need to do some serious reading about soil chemistry before I try anything crazy. Suggestions and advice much appreciated as always! :rastasmoke:

Thought I'd drop by and take a look at your grow. From what I read I guess I'm glad this isn't smellavision.

I see you found a suitable container for calibrating your Ph pen. I found that the little plastic cups that come with Nyquil and such, also work well without wasting much calibration fluid.

Thanks a lot! He is really excited about getting the shock from turning the RJs back to vegetate, and the pH issues with the clones dealt with - so we can get back to growing! I'm totally grooving on the LEDs, too. I should have gotten bigger ones. Any suggestions on really filling a 3 foot by 3 foot space with vegetative cycle light with LEDs? All I have now are these two 45w Glow-Panel guys.

It's not too smelly, in the chamber, just in the fertilizer jugs! And yea, I didn't want to waste too much of the calibration liquid so I picked a narrow receptacle.

hmmm......clarify something for me.

what difference does it make if the electricitys from wind, water,coal plant,ect if your still paying for it?


i clicked on thsi thread expecting to see a grow that was completely electrically self sufficient by being setup on a on-site windmill powered generator, and come to find out all it is is the guys paying for wind generated power?

how disappointing!



ill be moving out of california to oregon in the near future, and i plan on setting my whole house,grow werehouse,ect up on windmill power, and all of our heat from geothermal.....

The difference, ShastaCoMan, is that no greenhouse gasses are being produced to run these electronic lights, pumps, or fans.

An off-the-grid self-sufficient grow would indeed be cool! I have seen an educational setup like that at my old university; they had a windmill as well as a trailer-mounted array of photovoltaic cells and batteries, and were using them to power several 400w lamps and an irrigation pump. Together they were powerful enough that we were able to throw small concerts using their equipment and it would still run the lights through the night when we shut down in the early morning.

I got an absurd quantity of perlite, as well as an absurd quantity of dolomite lime. Hopefully with these added ingredients my lousy topsoil will do a better job than it has been doing. The Rhino Jack plants are starting to show signs of having recovered from their sexing - with no more calyxes or single point leaves in the new growth.

I wish I could say the two clones were doing as well, but I think I screwed up when I put them in the topsoil with no perlite and they're suffocating with insufficient drainage. I also ordered a dual outlet air pump and some more air stones so I can oxygenate my fertilizer and water before it goes in - hopefully this will help too. I'd better get it all figured out before it's time to start filling the budding area with clones! :jointsmile:
