That's one of the reasons why I recommend plucking the buds. (that, and the flowering hormones contained within the plant material itself)

I am sure you are right. In my experience it doesn't slow regrowth but you are dead on about the cluster of branches. I will definitely try it your way the next time I get the chance. Leaving buds makes TOO many branches that need to be massively cleaned up stressing the mother additional times.
