Im not far behind you. I got the e76 error and my warranty was up so i fixed it useing the penny trick but now the dvd drive doesnt work and I have a feeling that the RROD is coming soon. And this is my second 360 my first one got the RROD and i tried the x-clamp fix but it didnt work for me but I never put on any thermal paste though.

Buy and fit a 'Xclamp fix kit' they are extremely easy to fit and it fixed it instantly. I had 2 consoles with 2 different errors (red ring and no video) and this kit has fixed them both. Search 'XBOX 360 RROD REPAIR KIT X CLAMP XCLAMP FIX E 74 ERROR' on ebay, they are under £5. Can't believe I sat here thinking about paying just over £20 to get someone else to fix it the same way.

Don't even need a kit, just a drill and a handful of hardware from Home Depot.

Thats what i did, had to go to a few different places to find the right type of bolts. I was pretty impatient when it happened though. I Ended up using some generic thermal paste instead of arctic silver so i don't think there was very good contact between the heatsink and cpu. I decided to just buy an arcade model. I'm starting to regret it now though because I bet if i fixed it correctly, it would have lasted up until now. If that were the case, then I'd definitely be able to buy the new xbox model that just came out with a 250 gig hard drive, wifi, way better cooling, and its kinect ready.
