led vs hps?
i first added 2 of the LED bars to the outer edges of my plants and my yield increased from around 350gr per tray to 400gr per tray....i removed 1 of the 1000w HPS and placed 3 150w LED bars over one of my trays to see how they would do alone and the plants under the other 1000w in the next tray all started leaning to the LED's so i removed it and have been growing with nothing but LED's for about 4 months now! i have had 2 complete harvests with the LED's and the first one was 463gr and the ones i just took down this week shuold yield about the same...so i am producing around 1 gram/watt with my setup!
after doing more research on the LED's and noticing more plant mass and healthier root zones it only makes sense that yields will increase with using the proper wavelengths corresponding with photosynthesis!
the LED's i use have 52 3w LED's per 40" bar

Do your own research. All the facts are right here on this site. Weezard is growing using 15 watts per emitter technology that leaves all these "advanced lighting companies" in the dust. He had to cut back his production techniques to stay legal!
I have no interest in selling you any lights or changing what you do or the way you grow, BTW. As far as I'm concerned you can grow with a candle and a magnifying glass if it makes you happy.
Just trying to suggest that you do a bit more research.

First.
Any commercial offering that still uses 1 Watt emitters is obsolete.
Do not waste your time and money on them.
They are just re-packaged UFOs.
I have tried the UFOs
They grow bud, but not very well.
And, like you, I was skeptical 'bout leds too.
Even DIY was more than I wanted to spend.
But, we pay half a buck per kwh, so, I can't afford to run a big HPS.
I was kinda forced to try leds.
I'm just lucky that way.
The Procyon is a good unit but Pricey, so I've never had the opportunity to test one.
My homebrew lamps rival natural sunshine, but I'm not selling them, or anything, for that matter. (I is retired:jointsmile
When my first 3W and 5W emitter based units actually grew decent bud I was stoked!
The Theoreme and the Lumigrow look like good products and Old Mac uses and loves the Theoreme lights.
But, at skywards of $1000 they were not in my budget.
So, I designed and built my own and started doing side by side grows.
I've never been fond of HPS and decided that only trying to grow "just as well" as HPS showed a lack of ambition.
So, head to head with tropical sunlight.

My motivation?
Better meds for everyone, no charge.

Weezard

Weez,
Just straightening up some stuff on my end and hopefully I'll be back in the saddle and posting regularly again.
Thanks for the previous post and your very kind words.
Just a bit longer, Brah !

Do the units need an amp or special driver? Anyone have any schematic info to share? I would love to try one if I could build it for a decent price.

Start here
Then you can ask Weezard questions from there:
