What to to if a Doctor is affraid to write!
If you have had the experience of a Doctor telling you they are afraid to write a recommendation for MMJ or if they need to know more about the program, please give them the following phone number for the DOH.
Medical Cannabis Program Staff
(505) 827-2321
Tell the Doctor to leave a message about their concerns and a Doctor on staff will call them back to educate them on the MMJ Program.
We need to educate the Physicians in New Mexico.
This will help us all to make the program work better.
I was given this info by Dominick Zurlo at the DOH.

I see why a doctor is reluctant. Their clientele is not made up of "smokers" although many certainly are. Any doctor that writes a scrip is relegating themselves to becoming the "pot doctor". It is probably a bad business position to be in. Only a certain few doctors could do this and not risk loosing some existing business. In a few years it will change, and more and more doctors will get on one side or the other of this issue. I am sure there will be plenty on both sides before it is all over.
I believe that there are many nurse practitioners out there that will help. They are often more willing to talk about alternative medicines (herbs, chiropractic, hypnosis, aroma, etc.) than are a doctor for EXACTLY the same reasons as MMJ. If there is a gold mine to be found for MMJ referrals it will be the NP I believe.
I agree that we must go to our primary care physician and ask them first. If not for the sake of a referral but for the sake of educating them. The facts are that it is at least as effective for fear and pain and sorrow as anything that they have in their little bottles. The facts are that I am going to use it regardless of their reccomendations OR my overlords permission. The facts are that if my medical provider does NOT offer a referral the risks of being jailed, being fined hard earned cash, or being put in a risky situation are MUCH greater.
Any HEALTH issues the doctor is worried about should be weighed against the reality of the situation. The reality is that the only down side to yesca is the fact that a big cop just might take you to the dungeon for a night. There you might get hepatitis, tuberculosis, or worse. Then you will be held for ransom (bail), and you will get to pay a fine (a TAX foor smoking pot). The reality is that your doctor CAN DIRECTLY AFFECT YOUR HEALTH IN A POSITIVE WAY by giving you a referral. By denying the referral he is not contributing to your health and is actually increasing the only risk associated with marijuana use.
