Ok, as my advise would be not to harvest part of the plant. This will only cause your plant to concentrate on fixing the parts you cut off. You want the plant to grow and harvesting the lower parts will slow this down. I know from personal experience to not harvest just part of the plant.

After you see your buds puff up in the last 2 weeks or so would be a good time to harvest. Only because you cant see with out a scope of some sort and iv tried binoculars and it didn't work for me at all, so im unsure if that person had better ones then me or what. Its better to take your time, because i didn't once and got less of a yield, because i harvested the tops to let the bottom grow out. So, my biggest buds on top, didn't puff up and i lost yield.
