Please take a look at my plants and provide comments
I haven't grown in about 5 years, and have never grown in soil, so I'd like to get some feedback from the group. I have a chemistry background, and prefer hydro but with travel, dirt seemed like it might be simpler to implement and a little less fussy
first few weeks of veg stage, only been under the MH for 1 week
1000 W MH
CO2 added as well
I'm using Miracle grow soilthat I added a fair amount of vermiculite, perlite, worms casings, and some light fert's).
80 deg during the day, 75 at night.
There is excellent ventillation
Any thoughts on what you see in terms of plant health?

Why the strings? Some look fine, some look scrawny. Differences in the genotype? They sure do not look like they are under a 1000w lamp. How old?

Much obliged for your feedback
Strings are used to get these plants ready for a SCROG type set up. After a couple of toppings, the strings are used to open the plant up to the light.
There are 3 gene types going on there, Green Crack, Jack The Ripper, and Montanuska Thunder F***.
I am limited to 6 plants under current medical marijuana laws so I am trying to max my harvest ability by topping and going to a SCROG set-up. 2 of the scrawny clones came to me that way, I have since topped them and am trying to train them back down and sideways a bit.
They have been under the 1000 watt for 1 week as of today, and I got them as clones about 3 weeks ago. I'm still a little nervous to get the light too close, as I have historically fried plants.
Any suggestions?

They look healthy man, a little small if anything.... why d'you go with the miracle grow?....from what I've read on here it seems to cause a lot of problems...
How about a cool tube to get that light closer Goldenglow?

They look pretty good. Give em a couple/few weeks under the 1000 watter to fill out before you flower them.
Think of your buds like chocolate chip cookies: some people like em crunchy and some people like em chewy. Personally, I want them tanned golden brown but not crispy....and no one likes cold raw dough in the middle of their cookie.

Thanks again for the feedback
I live in a remote area, and that is what I had access to at the time in terms of MG. I purchased soil ammendment kits, and was hoping that would get me by. I didn't add any nutrients to the MG, but added all the ammednments (vermiculite, perlite, worm casings, sand). I have some nutrient tea packs that I will use as time goes on.
You are dead on about the soil, and one of the reasons I'm nervous. As I mentioned, I previously grew all by aeroponics, and liked knowing what my solution is doing, and the ability to change it. Soil seems to be a bit of a mystery, and narder to control IMHO, simpler and easier to maintain.
That is why I'm hoping to keep posting pics of the progress to the site, and hope that someone with some experieicne will let me know if things are starting to go south.
The reflector I have is closed, though I am not sucking air through the reflector. Is that a no no? Should I hook my 6"exhaust fan to the hood, or is it better to constantly pull air through the light?
Is the purpose of this to ultimately get the light closer to the plants?

don't get that 1000 closer than a foot to the tops and at this point watch out for extremely fast upward growth that can happen so fast the plant will burn.
MG is a very touchy subject on this site. Personally I have had trouble with uniformity of nutrients in the mix. Flushing before using will help with that.
Six plants total, whoa, not much room to move in that. My state allows 15 and that is difficult to keep everything going right.

10-4 on the light distance.
One of the reason that I am using the strings is to try to keep a horizontal canopy, in about two weeks, I am going to drop a screen down on them and train the plants into that for a SCROG set-up.
Yeah, 6 plants pretty much sucks, but I absolutely refuse to complain about being able to legally grow some herb in my own house. Sure, there are some drawbacks, but at least I can get rooted clones from my caregiver, which helps out tremendously in terms of logistics and harvest timeframes.
I will get some more pics up hopefully today, as they are fillng out very nicely at this point.
Have you always grown in dirt?
Thanks again for the feedback

Well I wish everyone could grow 6 legally. I wouldn't complain myself, because of the little meds I use. You could grow monsters and have more then needed. I would normally steer clear of MG soil or even that topic on here, soo many read into things wrong and some have bad common sense. What you mixed with that MG makes me think there were other options like Promix or some other brand but after the amendments you added you should be able to handle and deal with the usual issues that some have with it and really make some nice plants. If your temps were off I would try to hook up the light hood to your exhaust system and keep ambient temps in the box/room/cab and run your bulb cooler as well but would have to see the setup to understand. You went from reflector to then talking about hood are they one and the same? I was thinking it is. Oh and with your previous experience you should have no trouble reacting to any nute issues as long as you keep tabs on things. Can't wait to see more.

I attached some more pics taken 3 days later. They are coming along nicely and are starting to add veg material.
Going to set up ventillation on the hood/reflector today.
I'm seeing a gfew gnats/fruit flies in the room. Is there a trick to getting rid of those? I put a few fly strips up, and they seem to be catching a few.
