First time Grower... few questions

First of all I've been reading through some of the threads and you guys all seem so much more willing to help than the previous and first forum I tried so here goes...


(If I seem a bit blunt in places its just because I've copied/pasted some from my replies on the other forum)

Ok, first time grower. I want to grow just for the reason so I don't have to buy it. I'm not concerned about how many plants I grow the first time round as I just want to get the hang of it all first.

Pots:
I started collecting items around the house today like pot plants and little things like that.
Which of these pots will be suitable and how many for each stage?.


Some assorted pots I thought would be good to start the seedling?.


Extras that any of you might think I should use instead of those ones^?.

I need to hide it, thats why I was thinking of growing in the box because it can be left there and all I need to do is open the flap on the side when I cut it.I should be able to fit a Batwing Light Reflector Sml in there with the plant right?

Lights:
I am thinking of getting a BATWING LIGHT REFLECTOR SML for this.

Fans?:
Are these necessary?. Would it be enough air flow if I just cut some holes on the sides that wont be seen and move the box away from the wall a few centimeters?.

Hydro/Soil?
I don't really know what the best option is but can anyone of you recommend which way to go? easier? more reliable?.

Cheap seeds?:
I'm not really concerned about what type/strain I grow but does anyone know of a place that can beat $47AUD(incl postage from Canada) for 10 seeds?.


I guess what I really want is just to have my first taste in growing even if its just one small plant with not much bud. From there I'll decide what I'll do.

Hi Greengrocer....

Heres my advice If you wanna just grow one plant to start off with.....

Buy a small HPS floodlight.... 70w (they put out around about 6000 Lumens) and cost around £35 GBP... (dunno about aussie dollars?)

You dont need to buy pots.... check my grow out.... I used empty 5L water bottles and doubled them up.... they done the job... but if you are not growing on that tight a budget.... I'd reccomend you buy a 10L pot....

(Best to start your seeds in some sowing & cutting compost 50-50 with perlite...then transfer into the 10L once a strong rooting structure has been established....)

Fans are definately necessary.... otherwise you'll have heat issues....

Soil is easier than hydro for a 1st timer

Box...dont use a cardboard box! you might burn the fucking house down! ....and your box in the picture is too small!


build yourself a 3mm-5mm ply wood box...... 1ft-1.5ft square and tall enough to accommodate your pot + light + maybe 2.5 ft....for the plant...

Buy feminised seeds....(the attitude are highly recomended) - Go Indica as they stay short and bushy....

This being your first time, just keep it simple. Most of the really good growers will tell you this. Also, yeah, dont burn your house down. There are people that use cardboard in here, but they know what they are doing. You can get a u light and use cfls for a good first time grow. If you have read the grow logs then you should have seen some of the nice plants grown with cfl's. Its cheep and puts out less heat. Just grow a plant, dont make it hard, its a weed. The hobby can be fun, but it takes lots of reading and experience and the way to get there is to start with growing one plant:thumbsup:

Thanks alot for your replies guys.

That cardboard box is really the only place I can grow that conceals everything but I'll scope out the house for an equally safe place. If I cant find a different place that offers security could I still attempt growing in that box? I would just have to be extremely careful obviously(like i should have the light on while I'm at home?).

I'm on a pretty tight budget since I'm only 18 I don't have much income. I know you said I could use some 5L bottles but could I happily grow a small plant in that box that will produce even a small amount of bud?.

Thanks for the info about the seeds as well, I was thinking it would be better to get feminised seeds because then you know that they will grow to be female, right?.

Just use a 6500k cfl for veg and 2700k to flower in that box, but if your growing in someone else's house, like your parents, its not good. What if you burn down the house. Be safe. When others that live with you dont know there is a potential for a fire, they may not make it out. CFL'S put out little heat, but wiring can cause issues too. Just be safe my friend:rasta:

I'd go with a feminised autoflowering Indica.... definately wouldnt use that box though.... put one together out of ply wood yourself... and If you can....get a 70w sodium.....

After posting on a few more forums and getting replies I have come to the conclusion that it is in my(and my mums) best interest to grow outside of the property...let-alone in a cardboard box...what was I thinking!...it could burn the house down!.

So now that I'm not going to grow indoors now, can you guys give me some quick hints/tips for outdoor growing since I've only been reading up on indoor growing and would you guys be willing to continue to answer any of my questions I post in this thread?

I actually have to agree with you(on the ganja-related forums) Aussies are dicks. I posted on an Aussie ganja-related forum and they were more interested in telling me what I need to read and they gave me short answers unlike you guys (yes, some have been short but you have answered my question(s)) have given me thorough replies.

If it was me greengrocer,

I would definately go with a feminised autoflowering indica.... get one which is of a hardy variety towards pests and disease.... I think that the attitude actually do Afghan Kush in feminised auto..... thats what I'll be trying outdoors in the summer....

maybe get 3 seeds and have 3 seperate locations.....

You'll need to start reading up on P.H also...(very important)
