Fluctuating temps! Is this a killer?
Hey y'all...
So this room is in a basement next to an exterior wall (one side of the basement is aboveground and this is on that side). This building was built in the 1930s and has SHIT insulation! If I set my thermostat above 70-degrees it would stay on for probably hours.
Anyway, the basement does have a heat vent so I can pump heat down there at night... right now we don't run the heat at night to save money.
Anyway, at night down in the basement without heat it probably gets down to about 55-degrees. I probably need to warm it up a bit.
Here's my question: How stressful will it be to the plant if the plant has continuous hot/cold period throughout the night while the heat cycles? For example, it'll get down to like 58-60, then the heat would kick on and bring it back up tol like 63-68. This might happen a couple times a night. A slow transition of maybe 5 degrees back and forth? I can't keep it constant because the basement cools off much faster than the thermostat location. So, when the thermostat cut off temp is reached, and the heat kicks on, the basement temp is already 5-degrees below the cutoff temp. And the vent in the basement is massive so it heats up faster than the upstairs.... it's a fucked up heating/furnace system I will admit....
Peace,
