    Might be caught in Wisconsin

Out of town for Xmas break and had a friend water my plant every few days. I grow a single plant for personal use in a plastic grow box in my closet. Last time she stoppe in was the 22nd and there was no apartment showing notice on my door. They need to give 24 hours notice and there probably weren't any showings Xmas eve or Christmas itself so I don't know why anyone would have gone in my apartment.

I get a call from my friend the morning of the 26th saying that the key doesn't turn in the lock and there are some weird nails on the side of my door. That really weirded me out but when she tried stopping by later that day the nails were gone and there was a shiny new lock on the door. This call was Saturday morning and the office isn't open on the weekends so I couldn't call just to see if the first thing they would say is that they found a plant in my apt or something just to let me know what's going on.

So they took the nails out and changed the lock on saturday but my friend just dipped and didn't see if he key fit in the new lock. You would think if for some bizarre reason they went in my apartment and snipped around in my closet and found a plant that they would call me and say that I'm evicted but I haven't gotten any calls. I just have to wait until 8:30 tomorrow morning and ask for a balance check and see if they have anything to say to me.

I checked normls website and it says that 1-4 plants is 3.5 years. It seems far fetched that I'd be guilty of a crime with that kind of punishment an no one even contacts me over the weekend. Plus I never sell any of it, there's no weed, scales, or baggies in the apt so it would be hard for them to hit me with intent to sell. Also I'm an astronautical engineering student with good grades in Madison, wi, basically the most liberal city by far in all of Wisconsin.

What the fuck guys I've pretty much typed up all I know do you have any experience with this or ideas as to what I'm facing? Does it make sense that i should assume they found my plant just because there were some lock switcheroos. I really don't want to be a felon but maybe I should have thought of tha before I started growing :/

Either your buddy's bugging out or somethings up. In a perfect world it would be maintenance that replaced your lock because the key snapped off or wasn't locking properly. That sucks not knowing. Good luck man sorry to heir that.

I would think they would notify you either by a call or posting a notice on the door if you were evicted. That and your stuff would probably be in boxes out front IME (buddy was kicked out of his studio apt for growing).

Dont be paranoid. Could of been everyone got new locks. Worst thing you can do is lose your head. Stay calm, call down today and ask why your place needed to be opened without you there. With one plant I wouldnt expect any time but they sure like to milk the money out of us.With that being said bank up. If you do get charged make sure you visit the judges court room before you do anything. And dont go to court without representation(a lawyer). Watch the judge and the attorneys that judge seems to like a little better than others.Try to use a lawyer you see that judge get along with.Never use a lawyer outside the courts jurisdiction. Always use a local guy but make sure that attorney has delt with that judge. The best way is to take the time and go and observe. Every lawyer/attorney is the best just ask them. I figure is you can pay 800.00 for a lawyer and get 200.00 in fines or 200.00 for a lawyer and 800.00 in fines. Wich ever way you look at it its a grand. It has been my experience getting the higher dollar lawer makes for less probation and drug screening.Good luck and make sure you post back I'm currious to see whats going to happen.
P.S. Isnt it amazing what that little plant is capable of.
Last post was today. You should have put up a mi. section. you guys suck.

This kinda sounds like it may be a dorm room. Is that true?

If so, The school is likely the one to worry about. I just spoke to a person last week at my local dog park. She works in a dorm building for CU Boulder. Basically she said if a student is found growing they (the school) suspends them, allows them in to get their stuff only. Then they (the student) faces suspension, expultion and if the grow is large (more then 1 plant in a closet) they report it to the police.

I still think nothing may have happened except a new door lock.

I agree with the above too. If someone did find your plant and you are in trouble with the courts. GET A GOOD LAWYER! Nothing beats spending money on a private lawyer to get a lower sentence, Seams to always add up the same in $$. It's the fines, probation, and other goodies they want to give and, you want to avoid, that the lawyer can help with. Might even get you out all together! A public defender couldn't care less how bad you get the shaft.

    Good luck!

Forgot to say that I called the office when my friend first said that her key wasn't turning. I basically just said that my friend's key wasn't turning and if they could have a maintenance guy try his key just to see if its her key or the lock.

When I called the office this morning I just asked for an account balance inquiry. When I gave her my apartment number she just said, "Oh, I was about to call you back did that key issue get sorted?" I basically just said that she didn't need her textbooks anymore and I think its ok.

So the fact that they didn't say anything when I called is damn good news. I'm going to assume that I'm in the clear and see if I can get my friend to go back to my apartment and water my thirsty, thirsty plant. She was pretty shaken up but honestly over these past couple days I wouldn't care if my plant was incinerated if that meant that I wouldn't be caught. So damn I don't even know if I'm gonna grow anymore this really scare me straight.

I have a professional future ahead of me possibly working for government contractors and even NASA. I bet none of those would even think of hiring a felon. I have a comfortable lifestyle thanks to the fact that my family is well off with both parents in good careers. I don't even smoke that much anymore and was really only growing because it became my hobby. If a hobby can ruin your life with one person snooping around maybe I should find a new hobby. Thanks for the support guys I'll let you know once I know for sure whats going on. Time to go skiing!

Well she stopped by today and the key worked and luckily she was able to get in. I guess it was just some weird lock maintenance thing bur now she's too freaked out to do water it anymore because she can think of any reason they would have nails on the door and change the lock. Can any of you offer suggestions? If I could come up with a good innocen reason maybe I can convince her to still water it.

Guess my beautiful baby will die a very dry death

But still this is so awesome after this plant I'm not growing again.

well since you called them and told them you were having lock problems it seems that the lock changer feller had some spare nails in his tool bag . or maybe he took your lock off and replaced it with 1 you had no key for and nailed a note up which some asshole removed. then when he fixed your lock he removed the nails. it would seem that if they new you had a plant and reported it to the cops. they would get a warrant and come in whether you were there or not. then issue a warrant for your arrest. they would have been watching the apartment and when your friend showed up they would have detained her. and it dosent seem to me that the cops have done any of that. but you are most likely making the right choice in giving up on growing. you have a lot to loose. that is 1 of the sad things about the currant laws. someone with a bright future can be tossed to the wolves over something as harmless as a lil personal smoking. good luck
